Hmmm you should read up on the ranger epic on this website. Although it has been said that the resulting weapon isn't the most amazing sword in the game ( meaning someone has said: "this sux, you can get way better) the game, for me, is about doing quests for stuff.
As for a haste item Silver Chitin Hand Wraps, are fairly easy to obtain if you don't mind a bit of a camp.

At 50 I started working on the Coldain Shawl quest, look it up it's 8 parts and the final one is one of the best shoulder items in the game for me and i'm a pally.
Also it will take you to Velks a great place for XP and where the Silver Chitin Handwraps drop.

As far as the Silver Chitin Hand Wraps vs the Swiftwind (first half of Ranger epic) i recomend the Epic,twice the haste plus gives you attack granted there are better weapons in the game this is a great weapon for a Ranger in the 50's and if you MUST go with an alternative i would recomend the Cloak of Flame or something of such but to each there own and good luck

Good stuff for ranger! Also, try out EQ Rangers (The Ranger's Glade) for a great little reference sheet and checklist. For the most part, the ranger epic is a solo event, and the jade reaver is a droppable item.
It took me about 400 bats wings to go from apprehensive to amiable so that I could get the guy in Timorous Deep to talk to me. Bat wings can be purchased in POK fromt he inky by the fishing pool. If Niola Imholder (Mage guild in Felwithe) won't take the wings, just sneak.
I am doing the shawl quest with my cleric and it is very expensive to get the skills up, tialoring and smithing primarily. For smithing, the LDoN stuff seems to be the easiest for me to use. Tailoring is the abne of my existnece...

As a level 50 ranger you can probably successfully rescue Baby Joseph Sayer from the gnoll commander in Black Burrow. He should be green to you.
You may also find success hunting heretics in the Stonebrunt mountains. If you turn in 4 heads and the RNG is in your favor you can get a sash with haste on it.
Beware however you may find some blue mobs in the zone as well as the heretics.

You could also do the eyepatch of plunder quest. It is a stackable clickable 20% spell haste . You can solo all the mobs but lodi. That shouldnt be a problem though because alot of people like to hunt lodi and are tuned into his respawn time.
