Dyeing (the other sort)Follow

#1 Jun 10 2004 at 9:52 AM Rating: Decent
I have just become the proud owner of a Raw Silk Robe which I made myself ...OK no big shakes but it was my first effort! Anyway, the colour is dreadful...brown...and I want to jazz it up a bit. When I enter the Dyeing box in my Inventory the brown colour is there already (under Chest) but it doesn't give me any options for other colours ( it does if I click on armour). Am confused. It also says I need a reagent. What reagent do I need to dye my robe and any basic tips on dyeing any one can give me?

Any help gratefully received.

I am a mage lvl 11.

Yeah - I have same problems with my shell boots - I wanted to dye black or Dark Blue to match my armor but it won't let me. Only lets me keep them green - which looks horrendous with my blue armor. Are some items un-dyeable?

The reagent is "a vial of prismatic dye", buy it in the bazaar or craft it yourself in gunthak. You need to own LoY expansion to dye, and you need to use luclin character models as (some) old model dyes are broken.

If you buy it in the bazaar it will usually cost you about 40pp a vial. You need one vial for every piece, which is good in your case since the entire robe is all chest, therefore you only need one vial. I'd imagine though that if you you're just starting out that price might be a bit much.

Thanks for the tips. I picked up a vial in the bazaar for 36pp and am now wearing a zappy bright red number...you can see me a mile away

Does anyone know if you can modify the color once you've *dyed* something or do you need another vial of prismatic each time if you change your mind...

Once you click Save, the reagent is used and if you want to change the color again, you'll need another dye. Keeps the dye market thriving heh (which, apparently some people change their colors every day heh).

On a seperate note, when you use prismatic dye, you are actually dying the armor slot, and not the armor. If you happen to replace that armor with a new piece, the new piece will take on the color of the old armor. Just as if you sell your old armor, the person who uses it next will see it as its default color(or whatever they've dyed it as). Just make sure you get a *Vial of Prismatic Dye* and not *Prismatic Dye*. Alot of people on my server sell the latter, and I have no idea why. Doesn't work til it's a vial, to my knowledge :)

You need a new vial of prysmatic dye every time you change your mind. But you do get the option to look at yourself in your new armor color before you commit to it. That is the time to change your mind unless you are flush and can afford the cost of changing to a new color.
