A few bits for the uninformed about ToV:
1. There is indeed a bouncer at the door. Sont is one of the circle of dragons that hangs out in the canyon out front. I honestly don't remember if he sees through invis or not (I think he does). The whole Sont thing brings up the next issue though.
2. When you first start in ToV, you should *probably* work up good faction first (Claws of Veshan). There are three major sections in ToV: Halls of Testing, West Wing, and North Wing.
HoT is the "easy" section of the zone. It's important to note that the wyrms and such there are *not* on CoV faction, so you can kill them all day long without hurting your faction with all the other mobs in the zone (or with the mobs in Skyshrine). Um. It's also important to note that the mobs on CoV faction will assist these mobs if they see it. There is a big door between HoT and the rest of the zone and for the most part as long as it's kept shut, you're ok. If it's opened while you are fighting, you will get a horde of mobs from the center room and will likely all die. HoT is where you get the drops for Skyshrine armor, but you must be ally faction with CoV to do those quests. There are a few nameds way in the back area that drop some quest bits (probably not worth the time to do those though), and Doze is in the room straight ahead across the pit from the HoT door room (He's the toughest thing in this part of the zone).
I've not hunted much in West Wing. For the most part, it's NToV lite, and has the same general rules. The mobs are on CoV faction, so hunting here will hurt you if you plan on completeing more SS armor quests. They're also a step up in difficulty from the HoT mobs.
NToV used to be the big raid spot in Velious. It's still pretty tough, and I know lots of guilds full of Ornate geared characters (purchased mostly) who would die miserably here just due to lack of raid discipline. Unfortunately, in my personal opinion, the loot to be gained here simply isn't worth the amount of time spent anymore. Drops from named in NToV still take a reasonable sized force for most guilds that would bother at all (3ish groups typically simply because of the various AE effects these guys dish out), but the drops are somewhere equivalent to what you can get one groupping in zones like PoH, Veksar, and BoT (if you're into cashing in ornate and buying stuff with it).
ToV is a great area to raid for a guild that needs/wants to learn how to raid properly. But really don't expect the loot to be that fantastic by todays standards.
EDIT: Dammit. Forgot number 3...
3. The zonein is one way. There is a zoneout, way back in West Wing somewhere (I've used it like twice a looooong time ago), which takes you back outside. Normally, you need to bring porters to get your raid out of ToV. I mention this just because it's a minor gotcha that can be a major gotcha if you don't know about it ahead of time...
Oh. I mentioned Sont not being that big of an issue, and here's why. If you are hunting in HoT, you should have at least non-KoS faction to CoV anyway, so you can just walk right past Sont. If you are heading to ToV and are KoS, then presumably you are planning on hunting in NToV or WW. In that case, there's no reason for your guild to not just whack Sont on the way in. In fact, all the mobs out front are not really any harder then what you're heading in to fight (and there are *no* issues with adds, pathing, respawn and whatnot, so the fights there are easier IMO). Also Sont and company can drop bits for the ST key IIRC, which presumably is where you'll want to head after NToV anyway...
