Suddenly my compass window has disappeared. Any one else had this? And how do I get it back? Any help appreciated.

Press Alt+D if you haven't changed any of the keyboard settings -- To verify go to the Options window and under the Keyboard tab, select UI in the drop-down window and scroll to find Toggle Compass which willl tell you the keyboard setting and let you change it if need be.
