I'm a lvl 46 necro...I have 115 practice points to use at my GM...

Here are the current values of the skills which I'd like to up:

Dodge - 75
Research - 40
Piercing - 21
1HB - 19
*Defense - 71

*This isn't available to train at the necro GM in PoK...What's the deal with that? Can't train defense via a GM? or do I just need to go to my home town GM to do it?

I really want to up my defense and dodge skills and I am leaning toward splitting the 115 points between them...

I've been told that I can have another pet class duel me and I can train them up like that, but I don't 2 box and I hate to ask someone to sit there and do that...

I also heard that there is a trap in frozen shadow tower (might not be the right name) that I train up on...How easy is this? Any of you ever tried it?

What would some of you experienced casters do?

You should get a message that says something like, "You must learn advanced skills in the field." You can only train each skill up so far until they won't let you train it any more. To get defense up, you're going to want duel someone's pet. Remember that each skill is capped at a certain point for each level. You can use your trains for tradeskills. Aside from that, I see no real use for them.

As I understand it, Dodge and Defense (and for that matter Offense) have to be skilled the hard way... you have to hit and be hit... a bunch!

Beyond that, you can only pour a certain number of points into a skill at one time. You will reach a point where you begin to get a message that says something to the effect of, *you can't train that skill any more right now*.

I'd say find another necro *buddy* and train each other... that way it's quid pro quo instead of him *...sitting there while you do that...*

I would have sworn that quite a while ago they made it so we no longer got skill ups from dueling.

The previous posters are correct though, defense and offense skill points have to be earned the hard way.

You could dump quite a few points into your weapons skills. They appear to be lagging badly. Clubbing and stabbing those mobs from behind if you're fear kiting them will also help a lot here.

For research, find a spell that will provide skill ups for you, that require only a couple, easy to find components. As a magician, I made the Summon: Ring of Flight until it went trivial at 142. That way I didn't have to spend so many of my spare training points on that one skill (it gets pretty expensive as you near 200).

I would put as many as possible into research, as to defense I dont think you can up it by dueling anymore but if you can it would be with other person's pet beating up on you at least thats how it used to work. At 46 offense isnt going to mean a lot to you anyways, and my defense on my necro is maxed at 48 but I used melee every chance I got when I was youunger and still didnt get 145 (the max) until level 45 I think. Reasearch unfortunately is needed cause you cant always count on the bazaar to have your spells and from what I understand after 51 their are still spells that need research.

Edit forgot to say your dodge is maxed and 1hb and pierce neither one make much difference to you, if you pet dies and your fd/harmshield fail your toast, you wont be able to melee an exp mob down at this point. Some useful links.

i cant say for sure because i dont duel and havent had probs with skill up really

but the way i understand it is if you duel a player you do not get skill ups but if you duel a pet ( which is considered an npc) you can skill up

As far as I know skills can go up by dueling. A couple of my RL buddies work on their skills by dueling each other in the arena..the higher lvl character just stands there while the low level character tries to hit them and their skills go up in the process.

I suggest put all into research. Even the lower and mid spells trivial kinda high. Doing the research costs plat no matter what. You loot 2 of 3 words and realize you do not have the 3rd, so you go buy it. You run through the bazaar buying up all the words for the same spell to try 5 times. Not very economical. Tradeskilling like fletching that is a viable option, researching, it can be a pain. All the other skills can come up naturally without doing anything but playing.
