A plea for friends? Just go play. And be social. If others are talking in /ooc (out of character) then maybe join in and have a laugh or two. Might make some friends. Look for other to group with that asking too. No one is going to hand you a buddy list from the beginning. Just play. Things will flow from there.

A necro?

I don't get it; what do you need friends for? Should be getting your pet soon (unless you got your level 1 pet). Jabober should be all the company you need.

Try making some actual progress and get out of your newbie zone and you'll start to meet others.

Aww, be kind to the little fella. This game can be pretty intimidating to a newcomer. Remember how much there is to learn? On my server, I haven't seen Steamfont with a lot of low level players in the newbie area for a long, long time. If you know what you're doing it's nice to have the whole newbie garden to yourself. To a brand new player, probably not so much so.

That being said, just keep playing. Don't worry until level 10 about dying, because you probably will, often. Cast and melee as much as you can to raise your skills. If your casting skills are lagging, go somewhere safe and cast on yourself repeatedly until they're all maxxed for your level. Try not to actually kill yourself though as the zoning to your bind point repeatedly will slow you down.

Once you hit level 6 or so, you can head to the Paludal Caverns to start killing bugs and little mushrooms near the zone in. You'll be in a zone FULL of people under level 25. You'll be grouping with them shortly. Be sociable and add the people you like to your buddy list. The problem with finding people to hunt with will take care of itself.

Have fun!

It also might help to play on the Morden Rasp server if you don't already. Since it's supposedly the newest server, there seem to be a healthy number of lower level characters around. You could also try going to www.guildportal.com and look for a guild to join. Guilds can be great for finding friends.
