I just got EQ Evolutions running a few days ago and im noticing pretty bad lagg in the more populated areas (runs great in neriak) and i am wondering if anyone could maybe help me fix this? Im still a newb for EQPC and dont know what any of the options do or anything, if i did i might be able to figure it out myself...

Here are my computer specs that pop up when i run dxdiag:
-windows XP
-AMD Athlon, MMX, 3DNow, 1.0GHz
-224 MB RAM
-DirectX 9.0
And my video card is a:
-NVIDIA GeForce4 MX4000

If anyone could help me set up my options or sumthin like that, that would be great. Thx=)

A little trick you can do if it gets real bad is cycle through the F9 key. That is your view key. Keep hitting it until you get the top-down view. That helps with lag (espically in the bazaar). You also might want to tone down your graphics. Hope this helps.

Turn your far clip plane down by pressing shift and - at the same time, repeatedly. Go to options. Click on the display tab. Turn the sky, density, and spell particles off. Turn off the sound too while you're at it. That always helps me. Remember to turn your far clip plane back up when you need to see your way around by pressing shift and = at the same time- repeatedly.

Your system is going to have issues in many of the new world zones (Luclin especially) while you can breeze through old zones like Neriak like a hot knife through butter. Here is what you can do to help:

-defrag your hard drive
-Make sure you have antivirus programs disabled before you login
-turn off all other running processes that you don't need
-use pre-Luclin character models (if you don't find them offensive). You can access these during the login process on the options button. You might also fiddle with the other settings here and see which work best for you. With the amount of memory you have I would suggest leaving texture caching off.
-in game, use alt-o and select the display tab to find the important display settings. Turn down spell effects and clip plane until you can move freely.
-play in old world (antonica/odus/faydwer) zones when you can, because they are just soooooo much smoother to move in.

Honestly, all those options will help a lot with allowing you to run "better", but you will never get great performance in EQ with these specs.

1GHz is less then half the speed that most games today are geared towards. My comp is 2 years old and it's running at like 1.8 (and I'm getting ready to upgrade soon probably). You'll limp along with an older CPU like this.

The biggie is the Ram. The recommended Ram for EQ is 512MB. The "minimum" is 256MB. You are running less then the minimum (assuming the DXdiag output is actually giving you raw ram). You will get a huge improvement just by increasing your ram if you can.

I'm not sure how the video card fares, but I'm sure it's less then ideal for EQ.

The two biggest causes of lag in EQ are the system memory and the video card you are running. I'd focus on those. The CPU is slow, but the biggest restriction there is that you probably have an older board that wont support more/faster memory.

I don't know how much of a budget you are on, but if you can afford to upgrade, I'd do so. If not, you can use the tricks and tweaks others have suggested. Turning clip plane down will probably be your biggest boost, but you can't see as far. Setting the resolution down to a low level, turning off detail and effects will all help. Just be aware that with the hardware you are running, you'll never have "great" performance. The best you can hope for is to just get by.

You can type /shownames 1 which then shows only first names. /shownames all to reverse it.

Also in Options, there's a section where you can turn off various things like bard songs, spell messages and melee hits and misses.

When you need to bank, shop or loot your corpse, look down at the ground after you've clicked on your target (Page Down key is handy for this). Then hitting your Home key will bring to back to looking straight ahead.

If it's possible you could double your RAM to 512, that would help a lot.

i have a 128MB comp and rarely lag, unless im in a luclin zone, i have only bad lag in DawnShroud Peak and PoK, with the new bazaar turn off trader feature i no longer lag there. see not how your MB would affect it as i have less than you ;)

All those in-game solutions will work up to a point. You must consider upgrading your system.

I recently upgraded my system from a P3 1 Ghz to a P4 2.8 Ghz. What I found was that System Memory (RAM) is perhaps the most important component. With my old system I had 1.25 Gig of PC133 Ram. It ran well but was laggy in zones like PoK and the Bazaar. When I upgraded to the faster processor and faster RAM, PC3200, I assumed I would not need as much and originally only purchased 512Mb of RAM. The only problem was the game was more laggy than my old system. So I went and purchased another 512Mb of Ram. Now I don't have to look down while going to the bank in PoK or for that matter in the Bazaar. I can move without lag in the bazaar looking up normally.

And upgrading can be inexpensive. For about $550 I purchased an Asus P4C800-Deluxe motherboard, a P4 2.8 Ghz processor 800Mhz FSB, and 1 Gig of PC3200, 400 Mhz, DDR memory.

The only thing left is the Vid Card. Which is something you should look at also. For about $150 - $200 you can get an excellent card that is DX9 compliant not just compatiable.

If you plan on playing EQ2, these upgrades I mentioned are a must.
