Cultural Armor?Follow

#1 Jun 01 2004 at 1:41 PM Rating: Decent
Hello! I've just recently picked up EQ again (About a month ago) and I've got a 39 Dwarven Paladin. I hear people talking about Cultural armor, could someone give me some information about this?

Cultural amrmor is crafted armor that can only be made by a smith of that race. It also can only be crafted in a cultural forge.

Here are a few things my DE smith has been working on, just to give you an idea of what they are.

Cultural armor is high level smithing (and high level tailoring for the leather types). Each race (except half elves) can make sets of armor that have pretty good stats. It is a fairly involved smithing recipe and good info can be found here and over at eqtraders.com.

The best cultural armor is deity restricted; however, there is a non-deity version of the armor that loses a couple stats, but is still farily decent armor.

I forgot how the armor stacks up against other sets, but if I remember correctly it is somewhere between Velious quest armor and Ornate from PoP.

Here is an example for a dwarven paladin that follows BS:

Underfoot Platemail Breastplate

Weight: 3.0 Size: LARGE
Slot: CHEST
AC: +51 Sta: +5 Wis: +10 HP: +40 Mana: +40
Classes: Cleric Paladin Warrior
Races: Dwarf Gnome Halfling
Slot 1: Type 7
Deity: Brell Serilis

Thanks for the quick replies! What does it cost to get someone to make this for you?

Cultural armor is about equal to Skyshrine Velious quest armor for AC and stats. Some pieces are superior (cultural full mithril plate bracers beat the hell out of Velious bracers) and some aren't so amazing but it's a pretty good indication of where it's at.

Obviously, the value of the stats and stuff may be in question. Blessed full mithril plate (for Tunare following High/Wood/Half elves) is swell if you're a high elf cleric or a High/Half elf paladin due to it's high +WIS. However it's less impressive if you're a wood elven warrior or bard.

That would depend on the server and the smith. If I have to get the supplies and combine the tempers then I charge 20% over cost. If someone wants to bring me the stuff then I'll make it for a donation.

Ok, I'm really excited about this now, and I'm so glad I picked Everquest back up. Now all I need to do is drag my corpse out of Dulak :) and hit the road to find the components. Thanks again guys! I really appreciate it. Also if any of you are on Innoruuk look for Kamurr Lytefoot. If you need anything I'll be glad to lend a hand.

Cultural armor is great armor if you have the deep pocketbook to afford it. Since it can only be made my high level smiths using hard to obtain components, it can be quite pricey. If you are interested in obtaining some pieces first check the Bazaar to determine if any is available and the going rates. You also will want to compare other types of armor, for the lower end cultural have been succeeded with other armor that sometimes offers better stats. If you are really a glutton for extreme punishment consider taking up blacksmithing and eventually making it yourself (the most costly solution but eventually you can resell pieces).

Some of the diety specific items do have a rather limited market, hence the price "might" be lower because there are much less interested buyers. If the seller is also the crafter (instead of a middleman marking it up) often the price is a little over cost, mostly because the person doesn't want to sit forever on inventory. For dwarven cultural your options are rather confusing. The best is the Underfoot series which is only usable at level 45. The lesser culturals are either enchanted or imbued, and may or may not be diety specific. Before buying study the stats of the piece very carefully to determine if there are any restrictions.

Some examples: (stats taken from eqtraders)

Just a quick note.

There is also a non-diety version of this line of armor. The Brellium Platemail line. Price is usually about the same (though I've seen it lower on rare occasions). Stats are *exactly* the same as well. Just non-diety specific.
