I don't understand what this skill does? I have my compass to use - why do I need to develope Sense Heading? What are the advantages?

Also I have a Druid that has the option of 'Conjuration' - how do I conjure something and at what level can I do this? Is it something I need to buy (scroll)?

Does "begging" work?

Thanks!

Pre-a few patches or an expansion or so ago....when you created a new Toon your sense heading started at "1". Which meant many hours of clicking the "Sense Heading" button you made. Until you skill reached a sufficient rating your compass would be basically useless.

Now when you create a new toon you start out with your "Sense Heading" at 200, which allows you to use your compass with confidence.

And I'm so glad SOE saw the light on that one. Jesus, there are useless skills and then there are useless skills. Levelling sense direction had to be one of the biggest things I hated when I first tried the game.

Thanks - that does explain it - I thought I might be missing something as I use my compass all the time without a problem!

Originally, there was no compass or maps.

You had to hit the Sense Heading button to figure out which way you were facing. Other methods included laying a weapon on the ground (it always pointed the same way), using /loc numbers to determine your direction, or watching the clouds.

Next came the compass (not the gnome-ish device). You hit Alt-D and this little window pops up letting you know which way you are going. The higher the SH skill, the more accurate the compass.

Next came maps. You could open the map and tell which way you were moving. The higher the SH skill, you actually received an arrow that pointed the direction you were facing on the map.

Finally, SOE gave everyone SH of 200. So everyone automatically gets an accurate compass and an arrow on the map. Because of the compass and the maps, there is no real use for Sense Heading.

Ahhhh...but, what old timer doesn't remember the days of running headlong into an orc camp and dying a hideous death all because you were lost....those were the days....(NOT!) :)

I have 168 in begging and have yet to see any results. I just hit it once before auto attack just to keep it high. If there is a use for it someone can tell us.

The skill of conjuration works with some or your spells. Some are evocation, some are alteration, etc. These skills are absolutely critical to keep up. You can use your lowest level spells, for each type of skill. Right click on a spell, in your spellbook, and it will tell you the level, the type of skill, etc., so to practice use a low level, low mana skill. Magic skills more or less max at your level times 5, plus 5. Keep them as high as you can.

You do need to purchase spells one time, per spell. You cannot put them into your spell book, unless you are at the level shown on the scroll.

Conjuration is very important for a Druid. Your main line of DoT spells (Damage over Time) are based on this skill.

Have a look at your Spell List and look for the lowest mana cost Conjuration spell you can find.

While you do get Dance of the Fireflies at level 1 it is not that useful as it can only be cast at night. It also takes a while to recover before you can cast again.

At 14 when you get your first real DoT spell you also get Summon Food/Drink. These cost 10 Mana per cast and will enable you to skill up before you find yourself in front of an angry beastie and fizzling the DoT. Allocate yourself some time to cast these over and over until your Conjuration is 60ish. Then you should be able to cast Stinging Swarm with confidence.

One of the best things SOE did for new people was change sense heading to 200 - my first character was a dwf which meant that I started at 50 which meant that at least once in while it actually told me which direction I was going (I still got lost a lot) until I found out you could practice Sense Heading while sitting to med or recover hps. This gave you something to do while sitting but was still a big pain (and filled up the screen with worthless lines).

Never used begging, think it can work occasionally on NPCs but not sure.

Conjuration is a skill that you will want to improve (just like any of the other types of spells, pick the cheapest mana one and keep casting it during downtimes to improve). I made the mistake on my pally of not using this and then when I got the spell to summon the first hammer it always fizzled (very bad when you just died and you are casting hammer so you have a weapon for CR). Like a lot of skills, conjuration is not something you want to start working on AFTER you just got that new spell in the line.

You can't. That is the maximum
