EQ Servers - DescriptionsFollow

#1 May 23 2004 at 7:22 PM Rating: Decent
I have searched high and low for a site to describe the different servers.

I have found information on the Rek servers but that is about it.

So I am starting a topic to allow people to describe the servers they have experience with. Good information to include would be playing style, SOE Rules/Restrictions, Atmosphere, Population, etc.

I started my first character on Stromm (Newbie Server) so that I could learn the game before venturing out onto other servers. Alas, I am ready to expand my horizons but could use the information to help me determine my next destination.

Also, why is Modern Rasp the "Preferred" Server.

Not really sure about that one myself, unless SOE is trying to pawn off their new server.

Other than that, your Zek servers are player vs player, Firiona Vie is a roleplaying server, and everything else is just standard. Though I must add I have no idea what's special about the "Legends" server.

The Legends server costs extra to play on. I have "heard" that they have GM events all day every day...

I don't know if that is true, but it is generally accepted that really hardcore EQ'rs play there.

Other than that, I would like to add that Venril Sathir is an English server-- as in they are on GMT time. I used to play there when I lived in Germany, but now that I live in Alaska, no one was ever on when I am. They have a smaller population that a lot of the US servers. Speaking of which, I'd like to say, Hi, Temluien! My favorite EQ friend ever who I met on Venril Sathir.

I would dare claim that the Morden Rasp server is the recycled server from the hardcore Gates competition.

Also, there is a French and German server. Don't know French or German? No problem! They all speak English. They might flame you a bit, though.

Also, some servers are over-populated. You want to find a server that has enough people on for you to group with, but not so many that you've got 250 people all trying to fight in PC at once.

I would recommend Brell. That's where I play now, and if you send me a tell, I'll hook you up with some buffs and introduce you to my guild.

Other than the Zeks (PvP) and Ledgends (higher sub, gets new zones first and maybe some GM events) and Firiona Vie (role playing prefered, no no-drop items, trivial loot code, diferent language rules and restricions on the number of characters you can have per account), all servers are identical.

The European and UK servers were set up to give GMT players and French and German speakers a place to call their own, but the game is absolutely identical.

Most servers have pretty large populations, hence the introduction of new and split servers from time to time.

Stromm used to be the new player preferred server, until it got to be well populated, now Morden Rasp is the new player preferred server. Other than the average character level being a bit lower, they are identical.

The only (very small) difference you may find is that some servers will have an East Coast/West Coast time bias for the majority of its players and one or two may have a skew toward Asian or European time zones (in spite of the dedicated European, Korean, Japanese and Chinese servers).

Legends server usually has 3 GM events per day also there are special items that are given out at events that either are legends specific or no longer drop.

I've played on E'ci, MR, and FV so far. All three seem to have decent populations, with E'ci having the fewest players of the three.

The special rules on FV are actually turning out to be a plus to me. I've been enjoying the fact that my dorf is having to learn new languages. But that's just me. To each their own.

Yeah, MR is just "preferred" because it's low population and kinda new (at least compared to the others). Once upon a time, they took low population servers and colored them green and named them "Newbie servers", but I guess they changed it to the more confusing "Preferred" which doesn't tell you much of anything.
