Discovered something quite by accident last night. I rolled up a Froglok Cleric just to see how they played and found it a most instructive experience.

The Froglok NPCs quite literally guide you through the beginning stages of game play instructing you in all the basics including conversation with NPCs, buying and selling from/to merchants, minor questing and completion of tasks, even basic combat. They even transition you into your newbie armor quest. To top it all off, they run your little green but all over the zone so that within an hour or so you pretty much know your way around your home turf! There are even *guides* available to take you where ever you need to go if you can't find it yourself.

SOE has done an excellent job with this and I think rolling up a frog is an educationally instructive and entertaining way for the beginning player to get his (webbed) feet wet!

I noticed this quest too when I started a Froglok Wizard, it was pretty boring to me though. I wish I had done it when I first started! SOE really should do a simaler type of quest for every class and race, it really get the basics of the game down. But knowing SOE....

Yeah, you even get a spell out of the very early steps (Lull). Those newbie armour quests though... do bleeder wings even exist?

BTW, if you really want a long, all over the city questing experience, try a vah shir.
Take this to the castle.
Take this to the gates.
OH good, take this back to the castle.
Ahhhh, here take this to the gates...

I know, I felt the same way when I spent days looking for *Giant Field Rat Whiskers* for my ranger's newbie armor. I'll bet I killed more than a hundred of the buggars to get the handfull of whiskers I needed! It must be that a rare drop is intentionally included to slow you down a bit...

That is where this site is invaluable. Always check the quest even if it seems obvious.

My enchanter's newbie armour out of Qeynos required a "Shadow Wolf Paw". Sooo off to EC and kill Shadow Wolves? Nope. Somewhere in the middle of Western Karana it drops off a row of Black Wolves.

Also if the item isn't No Drop check vendors. Chances are someone has sold some. I never killed a single bat and had all the Giant Whiskered Bat thingies off vendors.

Went there, did that! Unfortunately the item was no drop AND Qeynos Hills was the only place the critter could be found. Seems the same drop is also used in the *workman's* quest armor for rogues. Oh well, I can look back and laugh about it now, but at the time...

I hated the Vah Shir newbie quests because you can't see jack on Luclin. Its always night!

Try adjusting the screen settings in the DISPLAY tab of the OPTIONS window. There is a little slidy (clip plane?) you can push to 100%. This will bring some of the background into focus and 'lighten' things a bit.

Yeah, if you don't lag like mad on luclin, the far clip plane at 100% will brighten things up a touch, and the gamma will brighten things as well. I guess what I'm curious about is I don't have any problems at all seeing in luclin, and you said newbie quests so I assume we're both vah shir. Go to Queynos and kill some fire beetles until you get a fire beetle eye and put it in a slot (not a bag) if you still have problems. It's an ugly yellow light, but it's a light.

Or pick up the payala fruit and do the quest for Chialle's Ring. That is a light source too.

However as a Vah Shir I don't have any trouble seeing unless the rain closes in.
