I get this occasionally. I'm all up to date on drivers. Methinks it may be a harbringer of a hardware upgrade looming in my future.

Yeah. This has been happening on and off for the last couple months now. I would assume it's related to the increased graphics load from DX9, and the sheer number of people/objects in the zone.

Right now, there's not a whole lot you can do about it. I've found that slowing down when coming around corners and/or looking down will help avoid lockups. Obviously, that doesn't help when you are zoning in though. About the only other option you have is increasing your video ram (I have about a 2 year old card, and it's pretty noticable now). Other then that, you'll just have to wait until they fix whatever's causing it.

I've found you can usually just log right back in after it happens, so it's not that big of a deal.

Yes I have a relatively new PC well within the reccomended specs and this happens to me from time to time. I have gotten to the point where after raids I will port my group to nexus not POK as I used to do.

I'm having the same promblem on both my boxes and so is my wife. It's not the video card ram - have 256 on all 4 cards. And it doesn't happen in any other zone. I first noticed it after they made PoK open to everyone - which was a nice gesture, I guess. Seems to happen more frequenly if you don't move for a few, and also right after logging on. Our solution has bee to run to one of the books and zone out real qick, stay out for a bit and then come back in. Doesn't make sense, but seems to help.

I read somewhere that sony is aware of the promble and is "working" on it.

What helps for me is to turn my far clip plane to 0.

I've noticed that when it happens it is preceded by a large burst of HD activity. (Which is puzzling with 128Mb graphics ram and 512Mb of main ram). But it does happen less frequently on the machine with the new 256Mb graphics ram.

As Gbaji said, walking instead of running and looking at the ground will help

It is happening to everyone I think. It usually takes me 10 15 min before I lock up and have to reboot. I would say EQ has a few glitches to work on in that area. Don't blame your computers for this. I try to stay out of PoK as much as possible, or just put up with locking up when I shop.

I think this is a problem on SOE's end not the user end Kaolian.

Another wonderful aspect of the DX9 "upgrade"Smiley: rolleyes

Kao - I stuck my response in there because I didn't want people to spend money on upgrades that weren't going to fix the promblem. You know the specs on my systems - don't think they could be a whole lot better - and I lock up everytime I'm in PoK. It's definitely an EQ promblem, not a tech promblem.

I frequent the Everquest Tech board and this is definitely a SOE problem that they have acknowledged. They did request people to post all the system info so they could find some similarities etc. That post became so huge they have now locked it. They also have stated they are not sure when it will be fixed. It began early in April with an upgrade right after the DX9 change. From what is on the boards it really doesn't matter what system you run it can happen to you either infrequently or frequently. GM's on occasion are having to port people from POK just so they can continue to play.

A semi fix that I have found is the following...it will help but not stop the problem.

When entering POK or in POK look directly to the ground as far as you can. Your system is now fooled regarding the lag somewhat. F9 twice so that your view is behind the back of your toon's head. Do not run in POK, select the walk feature and move slowly. If you go to bank one take small steps and do not stand close to a lot of casting. I have found taking the long routes work best. I am bound behind the building of bank 2, I use the evil side to navigate to bank 1 or to navigate to the good side portals. I use the library porch as my path if I must go to the Jewelers building etc. I try to get my buffs and leave immediately to the Nexus until I can group.

It is a lot of work but it beats the frustrations of rebooting.

I have a friend that is on an older system, Windows 98 and a slow dial up and she is having better luck than the rest of the world trying to stay up with Sony's never ending cutting edge requirements. So go figure....if it isn't your behind times your to far up to times. Feast or famine nothing is ever just right.

I decided that the only Luclin graphics I felt like looking at were Half Elf (had to add Wood Elf for that), Halfling and the horses/pets. After doing this I have now experienced a vastly superior experience in zoning, getting around POk and the game in general.

I mean all the Oooh, Ahhhh graphics are cool and all, but frankly I can live without them (just that I want to see my HE newbie armor *dance, dance, dance*) and well, Halflings look MUCH better in the Luclin Mode.

My problem isnt zone or any other zone except pok this cant be a driver issue unless there is something in pok that isn't in any other zone in the game. Since december of this year I have logged well over 90days and only in pok is this an issue not the bazaar so its not the amount of ppl or anything to do with other players. ive tried the looking at my feet trick but to no avail
i still crash if im in the zone too long my solution is just to run as fast as i can to wherever i need to go and when i get that first halt (usually followed by a couple more then that last only a fraction of a second) i imediately take the first pok portal and come back again to continue on my way.

About a month ago I was in PoK and my computer froze up. I tried ctl-alt-del to end EQ and get back to desktop. This doesnt always work for me and sometimes I have to reboot. I tried rebooting and then my system wouldnt start. I had thought maybe it was my video card, I have 3 other computers and tried swapping a diffrent card inot the computer and still nothing. At this time I noticed that I wasn't getting any kind of post report. I have an Asus P4T533-C which has the option of either beep or voice based post. I then tried to diagnose the system and came to the conclusion the motherboard had failed. RMA the board and got a new one.

After reinstalling EQ(gad, what a pain) I logged in and went to PoK after a couple minutes the computer locked up. Rebooted and tried to go in again. Same thing happened. I looked up on SoE knowledge base and saw something about maps having something to do with the problem. I had downloaded all the maps from map fiend prior to re installing EQ. I then copied the maps from another computer that I use to 2 box and have not had the problme since. I do not know if EQ locking up had anything due to my mobo going bad or if it was just a coincidence. Any how I would try deleting the PoK map or all of em and see if that helps.

Just a note. Not sure if they have sent in a patch or not, but thus far I have not crashed or had any lagging in PoK after doing this.

/showspelleffects OFF

Since doing this, I have not locked up in PoK. I used to lock up 3 or 4 times before I could get through the zone. Started staying and getting ported in Nexus. But since doing so, have not *knock on my head (reference wood)* locked up.

Decided to test it and sure enough not 3 min after turning them back on and between big bank and nexus stone. ****CRASH****

So it was off as soon as I logged back on.
