Playing on a 56K modem in the UKFollow

Hey everybody.

I used to be a very active EQ player 4 years ago, I was wondering if one could still play over a 56K modem in the UK or if this is now not recommended.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Very much depends on the quality of your connection. Unlike ISDN the modem may be capable of 56k but only connect at lower speed. For example my connection here is a 56k modem but has chosen to connect at 46.6.

I have used it for EQ but not recently.

I use a 56k modem and have effectively no problems, small lag spikes in PoK and at LDoN camps on occasion.

You can use SHIFT-(minus key) amd SHIFT-(plus key) to pull the clip plane in and out (respectively) on the fly. Clip plane is how far out you can see, and having a ton of characters onscreen causes your video card to slow to a crawl and curse your name as well as spiking the lag up. A quicker fix solution is to look down or up so you can't see the mobs (mobs of people, not Mobile OBjects) and putter thru the area navigating by in-game map. Turning the resolution down has actually helped my internet lag as well (and machine lag obviously).

Even if this wasn't helpful, please rate me up... I do so hate being mediocre.

True, but don't forget that video lag and bandwidth lag are not the same thing. (I know you didn't claim they are)

The above will help if your combination of Graphics Card/Processor Speed and available RAM are struggling to cope. As nearly all of those factors are client side, they have a marginal effect on bandwidth lag.

My son plays on dial-up when he's not here and complains more about the pain of dialling in and LDs rather than lag which is rarely a problem.
