I woke up this morning with my email account full of rejected emails from Allakhazam and EQCleric saying I had sent a virus. I haven't emailed anyone nor do I frequent EQCleric. Secondly I ran a virus check and I am virus free.

I have to assume that the worm virus is using masked emails to spread. If anyone gets anything from josettee@allakhazam.com don't open it. Also realize I never sent it. Lastly I never send email as josettee@allakhazam.com. If you email me I get it at my real email you just see josettee@allakhazam.com. If I were to email or respond it would be from my normal email address.

Smiley: smile I know you didn't. I had emails from a dozen or so posters here. Even one from Allakhazam himself. Obviously the worm had access to an address book somewhere here on site.

they all arrived with a footer

Quote:
+-+-+ Mail-Attachment: No Virus found
+-+-+ ALLAKHAZAM- AntiVirus Service

as well.

Unfortunately for the ratbag who started it I am not stupid enough to open attachments with names like your_docs.zip

I got an email from Allakhazam that started out

hey dude!

I figure if a professional orgranization emailed to chew me out about sending them a virus like that it was not really them. If so I would be a bit concerned about who is running Allakhazam that can't capitalize and calls a stranger dude.

LOL

Here's a rule of thumb for those not as well informed as Cobra:

NEVER open any attachment unless you know the person it is from AND you are expecting the attachment.

Otherwise, delete it, or if you think it may be legit, ask them if they sent it and what it is before you open it.

Outlook Express users: if you have email previewing turned on, turn it off! You can pick up viruses through the previews. We just got spammed for a month at work due to a couple of people who didn't know this....

I use Norton AV currently because I have to have it because I use my home PC for work projects, but I've used Panda in the past very successfully. I have also used Kasperky AV and liked that product. I have tried and did not like McAfee. I have heard that Grisoft offers a free antivirus package for home users that is pretty decent, as well.

I've been getting these all weekend as well. Got 1 from Josettee and 2 from Alla as well as 1 from Huffman and numerous others. All had the same attachments and footers like that noted by Cobra101. Needless to say, none got opened and all were deleted.

My first thought was that someone was spoofing my E-Mail addy, but now I can see we've all been spoofed!

I also ran a virus scan just to be sure and came up clean. If you see anything proportedly from me, IT'S NOT!!! Not only do I never open attachments, I never send them without telling the person that one is coming and leaving a *code word* in the subject.

Stay safe everyone, the internet is not always a warm fuzzy enviornment!
