I think it's just small talk. The west branch in the Nexus ends at a pile of rocks, i.e. a cave-in. The portal book to Plane of Knowledge was added later in front of those rocks.

Well. Back when Luclin came out, those guys existed to help you find you way to Paludal Caverns. If you talk to the folks standing around the nexus, they'll point you in the four directions. They say that one leads to Katta Castellium, one leads to Sanctus Seru, one leads to the bazaar, and one leads to Shadowhaven (it should be noted that they actually got the directions for Katta and SSeru backwards and I'm not sure if they ever fixed it).

If you follow the *correct* direction for SSeru, you'll end up zoning into Netherbian lair (note again that originally, they said that direction led to Katta!). Following NL, will take you to SSeru by taking either NL->DSP->SSeru, or NL->MSeru->SSeru.

If you follow the direction that leads to Katta, you'll run into the cavein. The two dwaves there will talk about how this used to lead to Katta through some caverns (don't remember if they actualy said the name Paludal Caverns or not), but there was a cavein. They also will tell you that there's another way around, but it's through some tunnels off SH and is more dangerous. This is your clue to go looking in SH, eventually find the zone to PC, and then eventually end up in HSM, then GF, then TM, then Katta. Or maybe they were talking about the Echo Caverns to FG to TW to Katta rounte? Hard to say actually...


Heh. I explored PC before there were any maps online for the zone. Let me tell you, finding my way to HSM was a pain in the butt. Fun, but very time consuming. I know for a fact that I went around in a couple circles first. But if you followed the clues the NPCs gave you, and explored around alot, you could eventually find you way to Katta.
