help request for laptop userFollow

#1 May 12 2004 at 6:38 PM Rating: Decent
I am trying to play EQ on my laptop and when i play on my home PC i usually hit F9 then change the view to show my char from behind. then i hit 1(on keypad) 2x to change the view a little farther back from my char, well on my laptop there is no number pad to do the latter part of changing my screen view. is there a way i can accomplish this on my laptop?
I have a hard time playing in first person view and the above seems to work best for me. any help would be greatly appreciated

Try going into the options and changing the controls for moving the camera back(which you said is 1 on the keypad) to something else, like 1 on the number pad.

Or, for about $20.00 you can buy a USB 10 key number pad. Assuming of course that you have a USB port...

Or with your mouse you can roll back your view from 1st person to 3rd person, using the scroll button on top (if you have one with the third rolly button- if not get one). I am also a laptop user with this game and can feel your pain. Take the time to remap the keyboard and use that mouse.

It really works!

I play on a laptop too, and there are a few adjustments we have to make.

Your laptop should have a "Fn" key somewhere near the Cntrl and Alt keys. (Disregard the rest of this paragraph of there indeed is no Fn key...tho every laptop I've seen has one). You should notice on the right side of the letter section, there is indeed a numpad that you access using this key. This will work for this np. (For example...my U key has the Fn key of 4. Fn-U = 4).

The easier way, is just to rebind the camera hotkeys (and other). (My current set up is Q,W,E,A,S for various camera angles. W, A are the 3rd person, moveable, Q being first-person. I like these as I am able to quickly swap around views to get a bigger picture, and I don't have to worry about hitting F9 a bunch). You may also want to rebind the camera movement keys. Alt-arrows, Alt-pageup,pagedown, Alt-Home, Alt-End all work for this nicely. Lastly, you might want to rebind your screenshot key.

Of course, now you'll have a different key setup on each of your comps, and that could get confusing. Fn-[key] will work fine if you want.

Lastly, until they make a full size keyboard with the feel of a laptop one (the smaller quicker faster keys) I'll stick with the default ;) (once you get used to a laptop keyboard, it's tough to work with an old style one anymore. Laptop keyboards are very very nice.)

I play on a laptop and I just keep hitting F9 and it scrolls through the various angles. If I am in first person and I want a wide view then I use the scroll button on my external mouse and that does the trick.

I am not very good at remember all the different numbers and alphabets like the others have told you to program which is probably the most efficient way to do it, but the easiest for me has been what I stated above.

Hehe Josettee :) good point. Thanks.

In addition to my rambings above (or, in place of...) Do what's best for yourself. There are many options to adjust to a laptop :). Find what works for you best.

I got a little carried away in that one.
