Ok, get out your dead horse beating sticks...

Anyone with solid information about charms (how to get, where to get, which to get etc.) please contribute. I know next to nothing about charms and I'm sure there are others in the same boat.

The LDoN charms you buy from Adventure Merchants with adventure points ONLY work in LDoN adventures, correct?

If there are earlier threads on the topic please point me in that direction.

I will be exploring some Ykesha zones but not the Planes yet.
I do have some LDoN points but I need information on whether to use them on a charm or save for something hopefully better.

Speaking of LDoN points, you can also suggest what ARE good things to purchase including charms or augments.

Thanks!

Most if not all of the original "Charms" introduced with Ykesha are not worth the trouble. Minor stat increases under strange conditions like not carrying bags (Juggler) or having several of the same race in group (Brotherhood).

My advice would be to use the LDoN charm until 51 then get the planar charm and work at getting it uprated. Provided of course you plan to do LDoN.

Other stuff to buy with points? Well armour obviously. It depends on class. As a cleric I'm not going to buy a +dmg or proc aug (My hammer doesn't have an aug slot anyways) but as a ranger I might.

A lot of what you spend points on depends on circumstance. Some spells are really useful, some are a waste of points.

If you are going to be hunting in LoY zones, there are 5 charms which I am familiar you might come across or be interested in questing:

Gunthak, on the beach - Mokon Brokenskull spawns on the undead side by the water and drops a charm that gives bonuses the fewer containers you carry (clearly meant to be a monk charm).

Gunthak, at the castle area near the Nadox zone in I have come across 2 Mammoth Tusk Powder charms (pretty lousy but it's something to fill the slot). One dropped off an initiate on the steps, the other dropped off the luggald on the outer balcony ring. It's rare, don't come here looking just for this, come here to hunt and maybe get one as a bonus.

Gunthak + Dulak quest for Xoomix's Charm - This is a dex based charm that gives extended range II if you have dex over 250. I got this for my ranger since I was killing these mobs anyway. The pieces are rare, drop in the gunthak fort area and the dulak harbor area.

Dulak, Collect the 4 medallions of service, hand in in Neriak Commons. If you hunt here often, you will get all the medallions you need. Any character can do the hand in if you know neriak and have invis. This charm gives stats when you group with multiple members of your class or race.

Lastly there is the charm of the emerald warrior, which gets stats the better your emerald warrior faction is. This requires you to collect insignia from 4 mobs in dulak, 1 easy one, 2 from the caves, 1 from Windscorn, the highest level boat.

None of these charms are great, but if you are killing and collecting the parts anyway, they are just an extra bonus.

More details...

I was thinking of taking my 39 monk to Gunthak, so the Mokun charm may be possible?

When my cleric hit 35, I got a pop up window saying I should go to Gunthak (with directions!). Can a 35 cleric do well there? Which charms might be good possibilities?

Other cantidates include 36 SK, 34 Druid, or 33 Shaman.

I get the feeling that charms are NOT like a regular slot item, where there is at least SOME design for what would be best for a class/race and benefits are constants. Charms seem to be almost whimsical in nature, only benefitting very specific sets of circumstances.

In my opinion, the exp rate on the gunthak beach and fort is really quite good.

Pros:
-plentiful mobs
-few roamers
-most are non-casters
-bindable zone
-bank and merchants available at lighthouse

Cons:
-mobs hit hard for the level.

If I remember correctly, the beach goes light blue in the low 40's, the tunnel and fort areas are higher level. The castle area is the highest level in the zone and is a suitable place to get away from the now crowded dulak zone. The castle area doesn't go significantly light blue till 55.

I have seen clerics and paladins solo here on the undead side of the beach in the mid 30's.

As for Mokon, he is a 36 SK and will enjoy using harm touch on you. He is very spell resistant and hits quite hard. You won't want to solo him in the 30's unless you have help.

All the characters you list are just the right level to be hunting in gunthak. Depending on your gear, you might want a partner or group...

Unlike Mokon's charm for your monk, none of these charms are going to help out your cleric much. The Mammoth Tusk powder (wis-agi based charm) gets me very minimal stats with 250 wis and 100 agility. To me it is just a carrier for my LDoN adventurer's stone.

Some other possible charms:

On the Stormwave boat in Dulaks Harbor you can pick up off the Captain. Your clerics Temp quest piece will drop here also:

Rare drop off of the Oceancrasher mobs (not on the boat) but still possible would be the following. This is also near the safe area where your druid will hunt for the 44 healing spell quest pieces.

When you get higher in level you could group back in the caves of Crypt of Nadox and shoot for the following. If you are rich (unlike poor little me) it will add some decent stats.

Finally, when you get higher in level you can also hunt the Shrine Bruisers and hope the named spawns and get the following. This would be ok for your druid or shaman if you use wolf/bear form alot.
