In case you're not sure how, launch EQ at the test server by running <EQ PROGRAM DIR>\testeverquest.exe

There's a new tutorial which happens when you create a character. Send feedback, please.

Here, there everywhere Smiley: grin!

I just tried the tutorial out last night. It was pretty neat. Basically, you start a new character and then head off to the tutorial zone. It really goes through the steps of the game mechanics with new characters. You learn how to use the bank, talk to npc's, sell stuff, use a tradeskill container and /shout of all things. You even get a little charm that is supposed to get better when you talk to more npc's in that zone. there are still a few bugs that need to be worked out - but all in all, this would be a really great start for people who are totally new to everquest. It just felt like it went a whole lot more in depth than the old tutorial.

I was curious about how much 'easier' it 'really' is now for real newbies, so I started a virgin untwinked necro in Paineel over the weekend. Life is still a drag at those levels! I tried to kill a rat or two so I could by my pet spell, and my 20 hp went really fast (3 good hits from a rat!). Paineel doesnt have pushover rodents in the city. I finally killed a rat in the newbie area, and could buy my pet (plague rat tail), which helped. We could kill things now, but still, without the experience I already had, I could have died an awful lot more. By the time I got to level three, i was working on decaying skellies for some cloth armor, but still dying regularly whenever a skellie got in some lucky hits (and it only took one or two!). At that point, I began to get very bored with looking at the Soulbinder's face.

What's my point? I don't know. I guess I am saying it could still be pretty tough getting started in this game, if you had absolutely NO friends, were totally new, and had no idea what you should be doing first. This tutorial sounds like a real blessing.
