Well, not to ask a stupid question or anything, but I'm a noob and I am really curious. After searching through Magelo profiles, I have noticed that some Rangers are wearing Platemail armor. I thought they could only use chainmail, what's up with this?

I can't speak for every example you might have looked at but was it the icon or the description that appeared to be/was labeled as plate? could it have been a poorly chosen graphic that looked like plate but carried the description of an armor type that is allowed?

Even with my limited experience, I have seen many examples of graphic elements that looked nothing like the item they were supposed to represent. Maybe this was the case.

The "armor types" a class can wear (silk classes, leather classes, chain classes and leather classes) have lost some meaning as the game has aged. Even from the start, there have been armors with chain or plate graphics (Bone Plated Leggings and Golden Efreeti Boots to name two) that were wearable by anyone. With the other expansions that list had grown some and now it's not uncommon to see a rogue with plate arms, a ranger with plate legs or a caster in partial chain. There are places the designations are still useful; namely quest armors that require patterns or other drops (see Velious and Planar armors). When a rotten leather tunic or plate vambraces mold drops, you know who can use it right off the bat.

Just got a full suit of elysian for my druid. The graphics are full chain mail look. I believe the tolans is all plate look for Rangers and there is another set I think that is Ranger only that has a plate look to it.

Silver plated bracers can be worn by rangers, but not by Iksar. Why not? Because Iksar can't wear plate as a racial restriction. Smiley: rolleyes
