How is a soloing mage supposed to pull? I would like to be able to get just one mob at a time. Please help.

All depends on level and how social the mobs are. But try to use a Malo line spell on a Mob at max range that always seemed to work for me.

For classes which have no means of lull or crowd control it gets very difficult. At the simplest level you may just have to look for mobs/camps where they are sufficiently separated to single pull.

Mages are especially hard off in this respect. No lull and no root.

I have trouble with Shaman/beastlord duo because all we can manage is a single root and then hope that we can offtank whatever still comes at us before root breaks. And Shaman can take a few more hits than a mage.

Pulling with the lightest least aggroing spell you can from the maximum distance hopefully gives you at least a running start if the whole camp starts running.

Look around best thing i can tell u is that control is a mages weapon. There are sever place that u can control pull. Meaning pull one at a time tell u and your pet can handle two but your level is everthing

Solo I just hunt under my level (Stuff thats still dark blue, maybe a couple light blue) and send in a DS'd pet. Fire if the stuff doesn't hit very hard (Fire's damage shield is better than the one you can cast), water otherwise. Sometimes one would go for me first, just sicced pet on any that didn't go for it first. /assist pet, burn down its target once it's at 50/60%, repeat. Damage shield usually keeps them pissed off enough to allow a heal or two as needed.

Doesn't always work out, but enough for when I can't find a group. Killing three light/dark blues is usually the same exp as killing one white/yellow, and more loot. Casters are usually a bad idea though :)

As a fellow mage I ca understand your frustration. Realistically the only way to pull is to find mobs that are far enough apart that you will only pull one at a time. If you are soloing stuff thats light blue you may be able to get 2 or 3 mobs to aggo on your pet but its usually not a good idea.

Try zones that have roaming mobs or spawns that are far enough apart from each other that you can pull them one at a time.

Some good zones for this include, E-com, South Krana, Overthere, Dreadlands, Rathe Moutains, Great Divide etc.. Just explore if you want to solo you certainly can look around for good spots to pull from.
