Ok, I am not sure of what you are saying because of poor grammar. Are you saying you bought an account and now can't get into it? You can't get into your own account either? You reported it to a GM? I would say you were banned.

Well, you can request a password reset on your account at the Sony sight. That won't do much for any gear/money of yours that may have been stolen. If you reported the incident already, stating that you were trading accounts, you probably won't get much help and both accounts may get banned. You could say that your account was hacked, be it far from the truth, and hope you get resolution that way...

Honestly, you should read the EULA...

Hmmmm... EQ identity theft. I'd say you probably shouldn't trade toons with someone you don't know in real life... Or at the very least someone you're SURE you can trust.

But you probably know that too... now, anyway...

I rekon that if you can get your original toon back it will have been stripped cleaner than a Mercedes in Tia Juana!

Live and learn...

You can go to the EQ Live website and reset your password to your account. You need to enter in the email address that you orginally set up the account with and it will email you the account details. If the person that scamed you changed the password it will give you the current password, make sure you change it as soon as you log in and make sure your account information is still correct. Contacting a GM may only make matters worse, this is agqainst the EULA, you can be banned just for giving out your password. Go to the following web page and you can have the password emailed to you by entering you station or account name.

Take you computer, unplug it from the wall, and throw it out of the window. I hope that helps.

You aren't supposed to share your password with anyone. This is the reason why. Now, the other person could say that you sold the account to him, and are trying to steal it back. The GM's shouldn't even respond to you; if they do they are spending their time fixing this instead of something valid.

Try to get the password reset, but the other person has the power to get you banned now.

I hate to be somewhat harsh, but this is probably a lesson you needed to learn, and it's also a good reason why you should never buy or trade for accounts, whether it be with a real life friend, a random person you meet online, or through playerauctions. The original owner's data is attached to the account forever, including credit card information, name, address, etcetera.

Lets say I decided to give away an account of a bunch of level 20's for a few platinum. Two months later I could contact Sony with all of the account's information, and I would more than likely be able to have the account back because most people will not go to any extent to change every tid-bit of the account's data. This includes any work and goodies that have been put into the account since I gave it away.

Then there's pure dishonesty, which you seem to have experienced first hand. It was said already, go ahead and contact Sony about the account, you're going to get it back as the thief left it. This could be better than when you had it, it could be stripped of items, or it could have every character in it deleted.

Maybe the advice about throwing your computer out the window should be followed. If nothing else, just don't be so trusting of others when it means you could lose something of real value, like an account you've been paying to use.

you definitly got scammed. Accounts are keyed into the origional financial information used to create them, so anyone that has that information, can retireve the account at any time just by calling sony CS. If you used a credit card or paypal to pay, call them up and report the transaction as fraud. If you used a check or cash, you might be kind of screwed.

If you like, e-mail me all the e-mails, transaction info, etc, and i'll see if I can track the guy down for you.

The moment you give someone else the station name and password, the account's no longer yours; it's theirs.

They can change all the details - name, address, email, password etc.

If you are dumb enough to sell or buy an account, get the money before you give out the details.

Sorry to be so harsh, but I'm not a fan of bought/sold accounts, but if you DO choose that route, don't be an *** and give account details til you've closed off the exit route!

Slightly off topic -

Had an interesting situation a couple days ago. I logged in and could have SWORN that my bank account was a little light (and no, I have never traded/bought/swapped/etc my account or password. That's just, well, really dumb.). I figured I was just being stupid, but I changed the password just to be on the safe side. The next time I logged, I got a message that there had been one unsuccessful login attempt since my last. Smiley: yikes It definitely was not me or anyone in the house.

Very very strange and very uncool. This was after my little flirtation with Sasser - don't know if that has anything to do with it. Be on your guard!

I have to agree with what everyone else has said. If you give your account information to anyone, there's really little that can be done afterwards to protect you. Sony is not likely to help you because you've violated the EULA, and therefore essentially given up the rights to the account. One thing I would make sure of, if you haven't already...notify the credit card company (if you used a credit card to open the account). Ther person who got your password has access to any other information associated with the account, and since it seems clear they're of the scam mindset, they may well use the credit card information.

I'd also make sure to change the password on any new accounts periodically...spyware is all too prevalent these days and even without giving your password to someone, it IS possible for someone else to get your account information if they really, really want to.

Oh, and by the way...it's really not a good idea to post your username, even. That's half the equation a scammer needs to get into your account. =P

First off, your screwed. Never give out your password, you've lost all of your stuff, its time to accept that, now its time for damage control. If you use the password on anything else especially Email, financial information, etc, its time for you to change it RIGHT NOW. You should probably inform your mother if you used her credit card on the account, it may be in her best interest to suspend that card to avoid future issues.

If you are lucky it was some eleventeen year old kid that scammed you and hopefully he was only interested in your virtual EQ gear, you should probably assume the worst though and be cautious and proactive, He now has your name, home address, billing address, email address and if you used the same password on your email account all of your email as well.

Let this be a lesson to anyone who is tempted to circumvent the EULA. It is there to protect you. Play by the rules, play fair, and we will all be better off.

Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

Never give out your account info?
/shrug

I have a few guildies who have mine, just like they have given me their account info. It's all about trust and friendship.

That aside: I feel for you if you fell for such a blatant scam.

Actually, its about respect for your own things. You decide how much something means to you, and then you act accordingly. If you trust/respect friends as much or more than your account, then you give out the information. If you get shafted, the blame is on both ends.

Same as withthis issue. There is balme on both ends; the scammer who misled the poster into giving out information, and the scammee who decided that a random person is of higher respect/regard than their items.

Its up to you to protect yourself. If you allow grey areas in that regard, the consequences are yours to live with.
