I got to thinkin about it on the drive in to work this morning... What characters have you tried out, maybe even had high hopes for but they ended up tossed on the deleted pile because you just couldn't make them work or didn't enjoy playing them?

For me, It's been a Wood Elf Bard who just kept falling to his death on the forest floor below (can't see sh*t when there's fog in the trees!) Although, the final straw came when he kept falling through the elevator and was stuck in the forest unable to return to Kelethin to sell off his swag!

A DE warrior that couldn't find anything he could actually kill in that God forsaken forest...

And a halfling ranger who wouldn't have been half bad, (Yeah I went there... I'm not proud of it, I admit it!), except the music in the hobbit town drove me RIGHT UP THE WALL!!!

So what experiments, (noble or profane), have you undertaken only to have them go horribly wrong?

(spelling edit)

Mages: i try them about once every 6 months or so, i know they are a good class and they can take out reds at 20 and all that but they just Bore me silly.

5 made

Elegance: lvl 22

Jarkane : Lvl 24

Goldive : lvl 12

Tashra : lvl 12

Elainya : lvl 9

all consigned to the great EQ graveyard.

Bards well i am not an experianced enough player, it's my firm belief that no person should be allowed a bard untill they have 2 65's and one of them a chanter.
The ammount of crap bards in EQ is mind boggling and only when a good one falls into your lap do you realise just what you have been missing.

I can play my 3 main toons with some skill but i make a poor wizzie <to impatient> Drood <Can't run away> and shammy <can't get to grips with the whole Canni thing>

still all is not lost i play a mean necro.

My mage has been 24 forever. Spell research drives me nuts. Hate it. Doing it on a necro and 50% of her bank is full of words and still doesn't have half of them.

Research stinks. and after you finally get a stupid combo ready, if you do it you may fail, so you pay a higher level to do it.
It would be ok it you could at least get components for basic skill raises at a vendor, but you can't.

Stuck on a 24 pally as well because I get lost easy, nothing worse than a pally who can't find group when pulling a mob.

I've tried a DE SK, DE Nec, Troll & Vah Shir BLs, Froglok Wizzy, and an Erudite Mage. All gone to that great delete file in the sky.

The only caster I've had any fun with is my Cleric. Otherwise, ***** the spells, give me some steel or a nice blunt object. Zerks and Monks pwn!!!!111one1.

I do the same thing as Tarv...except with monks.

I have played 3 or 4 of them in my time, but never able to get the above 10 before trading them in. I dunno what is it, just can't play a monk :)

For me it's the Cleric class. Sit, sit, sit, heal, sit, sit, sit, heal, sit, sit, sit.... yawn. I know theres more to it than that, but jeez, I get bored with that so fast it's not even funny.

I've tried a couple times to level up a shaman and I just can't do it. Highest I've gotten was 17.

Knights seems like a solid class, but the best I've done there was level 24.

My monk made it to the lofty heights of lvl 12 before I threw her back into the void.

I've finally gotten my mage to lvl 34. Previously, I never got a single INT caster past level 10 and tried all four of them. Ironically, I kind of enjoy research (so far.. talk to me in 20 more levels). Then again, I dump training points into it each spell level to max it out, throw on my snazzy green +5% Research hat, and usually only have one or two failures making my spells.

I gave up on a Halfling Druid, a Troll SK and a Dwarf Pally. Don't know why, just never got into a rythym (sp) with them. I like casters though. I have a 23 Mage and a 25 Necro and a 53 Cleric. And for a change of pace I have a 28 War.

OnePrime, you gotta find the right group, then clericin' is fun. It's med, med, heal, root, root, ****, DA, back out of Aggro range, med, med, heal, heal, heal, root, root, crap, HELP!!!!, phew, "Hey can you med faster? We need to get pulling." Smiley: grin

Dwarf Zerker - I had one once god came out, but in playing a pure melee I realized that I'm much better off playing a class that has some type of casting ability. Plus IMHO Zerkers are currently really boring to play as they are like rangers with less abilites - since they only fill the DPS section.

Froglok Wizard - I really really wanted to play a froglok wizard, and while I'm normally really good with caster classes, I just couldn't get into the whole nothing-but-dd aspect of them, at least with mages you get a pet, enchanters get a pet and mez, necros get a pet...wizards are the only ones without a real pet and it just kinda wore me down a bit.

Ogre SK - I don't know why, but I didn't enjoy playing an ogre, so I switched to an Iksar SK who I somewhat enjoy.

I can't believe what I'm reading. Most of you haven't even come close to 60+....therefore you don't have the 1st clue of what it's like to play those classes you find so "boring". Join my guild 1 night in Time or Uqua and I'll show how to play those classes;)...but of course if your not 65 your not getting into either...

Depends on what you call fun anyway...do you want a heavy responsibility of listening to instructions and risk killing many people at the slightest miss-click? Or do you like to solo and have 0 ties and watch tv 60% of your play time? Or...like you said..clerics are just sit stand heal sit stand heal.....and mages are just so boring eh? ya being the highest dps class in the game usually does suck..../sarcasm off

Every class has their ups and down...quit ******** about every little thing..it's just your opinion and believe me nobody gives a crap about it but you. If you don't like the game then go the f>>k away.

We have a use for ALL classes EVERY night we raid....well ok theres only 1 that we've never had a use for.....a zerker

Umm hello why would i spend months leveling a class that bores me to death on the off chance that they won't bore me to death at 60?

If at first you dont succeed...

I have re-rolled all of these:
Monk at level 8, reborn one is now 39.
Enchanter at 22, reborn one is now 26
Shaman at 7, reborn one is now 33
Shadow Knight at 4, reborn one is now 36
Bard at level 23, kept him cause he had good tradeskills, made a new bard now 19.

Pretty happy with the results of the reborn ones.

Interesting note, if you keep the same name, the window arrangement on the old one is still there for the new one.

I've started over to many times to count. I finally got a character to level 65 this year after playing from near when EQ first came out. I recommend just sticking with one character as they all have some weakness that another class can do better. There will be times when you are not having fun with a class and this happens with just about every class in the game. It's better to just stick it out or you will be stuck in a vicious circle of creating and deleting characters with no end in sight.

Love my Mage 55 but-somebody has forgotten about them or has left them alone for a long time. We are no longer the master of soloing.
Since i play on a pvp server mage get wasted all the time the only thing we are a master of is runn like a little girl. We can't zone with are pets makes a major pk target. Also think that we should be able to summon some cool stuff or make some of are know summon stuff better.

Thank you Tarv, I was about to 'splain this guy that we weren't complaining so much as *sharing* details about things that hadn't worked out but you came along and cut him off at the knees!

Now, wipe the *moron goo* off your blade... there's a good lad!

However, If you re-read his post, I think the primary point in his post was to impress us all with his awesome power and standing in a high end guild. I'm impressed, aren't you? (/sarcasm off)

I've only deleted one character...last week actually. She was a Dark Elf Cleric named Quartta. I just couldn't stand Neriak...that is a horrible city to learn. Instead, I replaced her with Oxydidisous, my new Froglok Cleric.

I have Prepetual Newbie Syndrome though:
Charekil Ssavage - 35th Iksar Shaman
Talionis - 30th Half Elf Ranger (my sister's)
Amputated Limbs - 22nd Iksar Monk
Lasaxony - 16th Human Shadowknight
Velvetteen Rabbitt - 16th Wood Elf Druid
Dandari - 8th Human Enchanter (just for tradeskills)
Oxydidisous - 10th Froglok Cleric
???? - 16th Vah Shir Beastlord

I've abandoned a Gnome Necro on a PvP server at level 5 and also a Human Bard on another server.

Along the "Reroll" lines, I have had a couple successes with that.

My first character. Amerak - Human warrior. Got him to 17 before I started my Enc. Tried to play him after that, but got boring around 30ish...pushed him to 46 though.

After that, I decided an Ogre Warrior would rule. I was wrong :(. The big guy ran too slow for my liking. Then Stubby was born. The undervalued Gnomish Warrior of Brell :). Super super fun to play, he's currently 55 +6AA, and taking a good chuck of my playtime. (Also recently tried out a DE warrior...but gnomes are just too much fun now...all my newest alts have to be gnomes)

Bards too. Started one way back when...never got the hang of it. Then I created a new one after seeing what a guildie could do with his. Got him to 51, but stopped due to Stubby being a bit more fun. (And my hand got really sore after awhile.)

I've deleted more characters that I can think of. From Rogues(x2) to druids (x3) to Necros (x2) to SKs (x3) to Shammies (x2) to the aformentioned monks (x3). It's amazing really that I managed to level my chanter to 65 at all :)

Different "big mistake" story here. When I first joined EQ I was blown away. THIS was the game I had been looking for for so long.
I was a lil wood elf druid. I ran around killing spiders and skellis, then orcs, did a few quests for armor, and generally explored the game. Only problem was, all these weird characters kept appearing and killing me. Hmmmm

Remember I was NEEEEEWWWWWW. These ogres, lizzies and a kind of spectre thing would hang around newby hill in GFay and I died many times.

You have guessed of course.. nobody ever explained what "PvP" meant, and why it was a BAD idea to join a PvP server! I thought that was how the game was played!

Ahh me: this all got me so confused that when I DID join a nice server (hullo Brell) I still wasn't sure about who was what.. I remember yelling at a nasty ogre in Butcherblock that hung round the entrance trying to kill me (I know now it was an NPC).

Graveyard has taken a mage, wizzy, chanter, shaman, monk, shadowknight and getting ready to bury a druid. OOOO a cleric and Rogue also!

I really haven't found anything that has held my interest other than a Necro. I have even thought of a second Necro sick huh???

If I could do it all over again I would be Josettee in Dark Elf form but I never could figure out how to move around the town so frustration won out!

Deleted a cleric, shaman, and a pally. All were human and now all I have are a erudite enchanter (level 35) and a ogre warrior (level 3).

For some reason all my old characters were humans. When I first played EQ I grew up in West Freeport and Qeynos. I loved both of those towns and am a homeboy so to speak. Even when I created the Erudite I immediately bound my soul in freeport. I very rarly would venture to another town unless a spell or NPC is there and I need to. The only other town I would venture to would be Halas for some reason. I did create a barbarian shaman and had fun there for a bit.

For some reason I can only really get into the WIS caster classes or hybrids. I'm not sure why, INT casters just don't do it for me. I have great fun with my paly, cleric and druid.

Luckily I deleted the first character that I ever made, a erudite shadow knight. I couldn't find my way out of paineel so I just started another character. :)

You really need to get a druid past 20 to appreciate them. I almost deleted my halfling druid at 16 and I'm glad I didn't. Once you can stack dots you become very powerful. Once you can port yourself all over Norrath, your life is MUCH easier. Also with the transport spells you will never be lonely. I'm sure there are other classes that do not 'shine' until higher levels but you never find out.
