Ok, I may be experiencing my first taste of SOE frustration....
Each time I try to log on, I get an error 1017 indicating that I'm not connecting to the patch server. I've restarted EQ, rebooted, etc. to no avail. What gives?

A few things to check off your list:
Turn off virus protection.
Close out any background applications not being used. (I keep everything else off.)
I reset my modem from time to time too. (Unplug power for 30 seconds.)

1017 is your side.
1018 on the other hand is 100% SoE side.
do as indicated above and if all else fails contact your ISP.
