Evening all. I was just wondering.....
I've been mocching about the web here and came across a whole collection of downloadable interfaces for EQ. Now being fairly new round here, I wasnt even aware that you could change the interface! So my question is...which is the best interface, and why? I must admit to just about begining to get the hang of the standard one, and I dont wanna go an' get all confused (again), but it has occured to me a few times that the standard one could be improved. So any biased opinions would be welcomed.
I'm a 31 ranger, so an obvious health bar would be a bonus (hehe).
Also, while i'm pestering you all.....Can I move the spells around in my spell book? Or are they immobile once scribed?
thankyou all an' have a completely stonkin' weekend :)

Infinity is my favorite one. Nice look, not too much stuff going on and very easy to move around with.

Vertigo is the one I use on both my Enc and Warrior (slightly altered on the warrior though...removed manabar, move stats around, moved casting bar, also added my pet bar on the main window of the Enc's). I love the UI. All the information I need is right in front of me, the only thing it lacks (which may be updated) is pet health bars.

Vert is also a good one that I use on my bard. It's a bit outdated, but so is he.

Spells are movable. Simply right click on the spell you want to move, then right click into the spot you want it at. If there's a spell there, you will swap them. Be careful *not* to hit delete after you right click the first spell, as it will permanantly remove it from your book.

Moving spells isn't as useful/necessary as it used to be. With the quick select menus (right click on an empty spell gem) and the save spell line ups (right click on the spellbook icon) I never spend time looking at my book for the right spell.

I use a heavily modified version of Statix Cinderblade's Quartz UI. Unfortunatly it is no longer updated, but still one of the best laid out and most visually pleasing UI's out there IMHO.

Hmmm, after browsing all of the threads on the topic I still can't decide whether or not it's worth trying out a UI, like many others, I can get around on a computer, but I'm no wiz...

You say that after each patch problems with the UI are likely to arise...Is that every little patch? Because after browsing the UIs, I like the Tking/Drakah UI, but it hasn't been updated since the beginning of March, and there have been a number of patches since then...

Actually, there didn't seem to be many that were very up to date, not that I blame the creators, they're doing it for free, it's just that I don't know enough to change the UI myself (How hard is it to learn the code needed to do that? Is there a resource that I can use to teach myself? I don't mind putting in the time...) and I don't think it would be worth it if I'd have to switch to the default UI after every patch, it's hard enough switching characters and getting used to the different hotkey patterns that I use, but to have to continually switch b/w two interfaces would be too much of a pain...

Bottom line, seems like there is a patch every week, will these patches affect the UI or is it only the really large patches?

TKing/Drakah still works for me! It hasn't been broken by a patch for ages. They tend to update them only if it breaks.

The only UI mod I use is for the spell bar. Mine is a small 3x3 (inc book) box instead of the strip. Whoops, I also use a modified track window with the filters removed since my bard can't filter anyway.

Aside from that, everything is pretty much original. Not only that, but I have my viewport and windows arranged almost identically to the original stone face UI Smiley: lol

Ah, yes... I myself have a T.King/Remilio interface and I think one of the reasons it still works is that the interface is modular- that is, each window is seperate and not connected. Because it is like this, the windows are able to change in size and shape like the default EQ UI. I would definately recommend a modular UI if you are concerned about patch issues, but most of the non-modular UI's that are built to resemble one large graphic/shape tend to look cooler =). Heh, I am always disappointed that I have a 1024x768 resolution, due to the fact that many of my favorite UI's are in 1280x1024 resolution, *sigh*..

I use a modified T. King UI. Functionally it's got everything I want, but I also really just love the look and feel of it. I think it fits the overall fantasy theme of the game very well, as opposed to some others I've seen that look more like they'd be seen in some futuristic sci-fi game as the HUD of a space ship or something.

The only mod I use is the Mortis player window so i can see Exp and AAs as a %age.

Oh, and I do have the player target window modified to the "One Ring to Rule Them All" thing in Elvish. Rather stylish.

Both available on EQInterface.com

So far I love it, displays a ton of information in a very small area, and it leaves the bottem part of the screen open.
