Mata Muram is much older than almost every member of his army, and well protected. He is described by Muramites as unmerciful, powerful, a worthy leader - although there are rumors that he is obsessed with revenge against someone. Some Muramites have been overheard describing Mata Muram as some sort of dragon.

Oh, dear sweet Jesus, no. I mean... c'mon...

Huh? I'm not sure what you were saying when you replied to my statement of uncertanty that the release of a new expansion is a sign of SOE being desperate with "Of course it is" then. I guess we agree then. Or something.

Semantics aside, I'm sure I'll end up buying whatever latest expansion comes out. I'm a consumer *****. AND HOW!

WoW ain't nothin' special anyway.

I'm saying they'll fall all over themselves to make sure they have something to show off come WoW release time, whether that something is worth showing off or not. But, no, they're probably not cleaning out their desks or anything, figuring that WoW is going to bankrupt them.

Make sense now?

I'll be right in line with ya too Pat. They put just enough in for the lowbies like myself. Only thing GoD had for me was the Zerk, now the only thing OoW will have is that request-a-quest feature. That and the custom titles (maybe).

But yeah, this is a HUGE marketing thing. Eventhough SOE is top dog, they know WoW will take a bite out of them, so they need to soften it as much as possible. And you know what? It will work. As long as there are enough of us that will still buy it no matter how much we *****, they'll constantly put out crap.

On a side note, nice to know that they really are paying attention to their customers. With the Epic 2.0, >65th lvls, etc. Now, if they'll just listen to us on fixing the CURRENT bugs...then everything will be cool.

The DX9 Engine was released so that the next expansion could support it with new and improved Textures.

a little off topic.. a quick question.

from what i read they implemented dx9 into the 2.0 engine. the 3.0 engine is still on its way as far as i know (aint that much hehe). is my info wrong?

When they get the CURRENT expansion running right and get the bugs worked out of DX9, then I might buy another expansion.

Until then, they don't get another dime from me other than my subscrition fee.

I will say this. I'm GLAD to see they're updating epic weapons. Gives me a reason to finish pursuing mine as I'm sure the "old epic" weapons will likely be part of the turn in.

EQ is currently running the "New Engine". The only new game element introduced so far is the sky. the upgrade to dx9 was a complete graphics engine replacement for the most part, it's just still using the old models.

Still find it kinda funny that they're showing off new or recent models upgraded to the new engine capabilities. I'd much rather see an original EQ zombie, froglok or gnoll upgraded than some talosean I barely know.

And oddly, those screenshots released with the expansion annoucement are identical to the ones they used for press tours of the new graphics engine in LV fanfaire, which is how I know this. Those screenshots have nothing to do with the expansion.

SInce I am not network oriented, let me ask a question.

It seems more than coincidental that FFXI goes live and EQ switches to the marvelous new engine as well.

Is there any possibility that SOE is using their servers to double dip and run both games?

I'm totally ignorant of how all that stuff works, but curious nevertheless.
#38 May 06 2004 at 6:53 PM Rating: Decent
This might be a stupid question, but does SOE even have anything to do with FFXI?

Yeah. SOE owns both games :)

Just like with Shadows of Luclin, is the only way to get the "new and improved" graphics going to be through purchase of this expansion?

I thought about getting LDoN via this method but wasn't sure if it was buggy like most things Sony does or not.

I've bought everything since PoP this way and have not had a moments concern. Works good for me.

Everything is a mess, so many bugs you need Raid, and they have all the programmers working on creating new bugs. Didn't buy god, not buying this, may quit the whole game I am so fed up (it will take a little more but not much).

Not so, they are two different teams of people. One team does bugs, fine tuning etc. A different team creates new expansions.

EQ has ALWAYS been under development. I don't know if you can say that the release of a new expansion is a sign of SOE's desperation in trying to make EQ competitive with WoW. More like SOE is just going on doing what they've been doing for years

Absolutely correct.

This was discussed at the release of Gates, most of what is announced here is what we told to expect.

I've got just one question. I noticed that they referred to "Epics 2.0". Are these going to be whole new epic quests, with new rewards? Or are they going to be upgrades to existing epics?

In other words, are those of us who spent some significant amount of time getting our epics going to have to do the same work as someone who didn't? Maybe having the current epic allows for a shotcut in the quest (meaning that people don't have to do the old quests due to bottleneck problems but those who already did will get a benefit)? Dunno. I'm just curious. 2.0 kinda implies an upgrade, but they don't say that...

Why is everyone saying that the current expansion doesn't work/is no good, what ever?

In my experience Gates works perfectly. I know some of the Time guilds don't like some of the encounters, but that doesn't mean they don't work, just that they don't like the designers interpretation.

So what is everyone talking about? Did I get the only GoD download that works or something?

It is very nice to see a new dragon come into the game as far as I am concerned.

And yep, I will be downloading it when it is released.

Gbaji, from the link I've gathered that you're essentially doing another Epic Weapon quest. They are making it sound like all of them are consisting of three parts, a solo part, group, and raid. Though, from what I understand...that's not too different than the current Epics. The biggest tool they're trying to use to lure people into doing the new epics is the "Individual" design for each epic. Which makes me think things like Deity and faction comes in to play even more.

We must be the only ones Iluien. My GoD works perfectly too. My Billy Badass Zerk certainly isn't the pansy everyone else complains of. My zones are just fine, hell...everything is. Smiley: grin

I wonder if getting a working GoD is like finding the Golden Ticket???

Hey, wait until I quit the game but spend my time trolling EQ boards before you say that!

EQ and FFXI have no connection at all to each other. EQ is owned by Sony Online Entertainment and FFXI is owned by Square/Ennix.
