Omens of war

http://everquest.station.sony.com/omensofwar/

Here is the text in case some of you have trouble with the link.

Follow the Wayfarers Brotherhood to the war-ravaged Realm of Discord to help end the tyrannical ways of the Muramites once and for all. Mata Muram, the leader of the Muramites, is rumored to be building the ultimate invading army. It's up to you to thwart his plans.

Experience EverQuest: Omens of War and the twisted lands of a realm where war is persistent and death is constant. Face the fear of the Battlegrounds of Discord. Explore the shattered landscapes of the Discordant Plateau. Then take your fury to a landscape that teems with Muramites preparing to invade not just Norrath, but countless innocent worlds. Adventure solo, or in groups and raids to complete "epic quests" and earn prestigious weapons.

Features:

Epic Weapons:
Epic weapons are a result of completing an "epic quest." These hand-tailored quests will be available to all classes. The quest themselves will be a combination of solo, group and raid content. However, these weapons are being designed for people at the upper end of the level spectrum.

The weapons themselves will be unique in design. Additionally, the weapons will have specialized characteristics that set them apart from traditional weapons.

Level Cap Increase:
The level cap increase is being designed to allow players the ability to reach levels above 65. With the level cap increase, new items, spells and quests will be available.

Guild Tribute System
This system is extremely similar to the Tribute system that's currently in game. However, the main difference is that Guild Tribute will affect the entire guild, instead of the individual.

Task System:
The task system allows players to go to various zones and request a task. These tasks are being designed for quick completion and are initially aimed at lower level players.

Custom PC Titles:
Players will be able to select titles for their characters based on various accomplishments. These titles will be available across all levels.

New Disciplines/AAs/Items/Spells/Quests/Tradeskills :
New disciplines, AAs, items, spells, quests and tradeskills continue to make EverQuest the most compelling and persistent online world ever created.

Improved Graphics:
Discover rich new zones, detailed environments with expanded graphical features, improved spell effects and all-new NPC character models to fight.

Anyone want to wager that a half completed steaming pile will be released the week before WoW goes live?

well I like this idea maybe, I would like to see it based on raid content rather than trading in old items though. I think the idea of the whole guild benefiting from a raid to be pretty cool.

They haven't even come anywhere close to fixing the massive amounts of bugs that the switch to DX9 caused and they're talking about releasing an expansion???

I think it's time to put my foot down. This will be the first EQ expansion I will NOT be purchasing.Smiley: mad

Apart from the Quest-on-demand "Task" system for lower levels it looks totally focussed on 65+

Since I haven't got very near most of PoP and only been in GoD about 4 times I can't see the point.

I was rather relieved to reach 65 and know that was as high as it went.

I think the word you were looking for was "announced" not "released".

The DX9 Engine was released so that the next expansion could support it with new and improved Textures.

Has any of you ever done the digital download thing?
I thought about getting LDoN via this method but wasn't sure if it was buggy like most things Sony does or not.

The digital download thing works fine at least it did for me with LoY over a cable modem, however, if you do the digital download you do not get the little toy that they have been including with the packages lately

I wonder if that's 65+50 or 70+900 Time equipped.

Again a nice idea to keep folks interested in the game that have reached the penticle of the game, but they continue to forget about new people to the game. There are still so many things to do and see in the versions before GOD, that they are not really giving the people the time to do these things before bringing on newer items.

Not to mention all the "new" bugs they fail to fix, before going ahead with the newer versions.

I've heard that GoD is really fun to do, but heck I don't have a character high enough to do such things that a lot of folks are doing. Yeah the items look great to have, but geez, if your not level 65 with hundreds of AA's and in an UBER Raiding Guild, you can basically hang up seeing those for along time.

And unless you play 15 to 20 hours aday to keep up your level, level, level attitude, you'll get left behind with the next newest expansion coming up.

Heck, whatever happened to the term "Quest" in the game?

Might as well change the name of the game from EverQuest to EverLevel. With the raids being established to get these "uber" items, there is no questing to it any more. Just kill the mob and hope you got the raid points or you get lucky on the roll.

Oh well ranting again...*SIGH*

Everything is a mess, so many bugs you need Raid, and they have all the programmers working on creating new bugs. Didn't buy god, not buying this, may quit the whole game I am so fed up (it will take a little more but not much).

You, buy something, they nerf it, because they were idiots the first time around. SOE lets people buy plat, they ruined the economy, almost force people to buy (no I never have) because the loot is so crappy in every over 50 zone I have been in, it doesn't even cover buffs. I can't even afford a medium level horse, and I will never have enough for a high end one, much less all the gear selling for over 100K. And if I could buy one they have made it unusable in all of ldon and so on. I guess I could sit in PoK on it.

Bah Humbug soe, and stuff EQ2 along with it.

Is there a big problem with people buying plat?
I just came back to the game after a long break (2 years)and I have heard of people with loads of plat and so forth that was very very rare in my original stint with EQ.
I can gather from your response that if this is the case it is frowned upon ....... sorry for the noob questions. :)

If it doesn't then I will be outright amazed. This is a obvious ploy to try toi keep people interested in EQ right at the release of WoW. But after GoD I am sure it will not work. Not many are gonna jump in and pre order a expansion after the GoD fiasco. Many will wait and see the reviews. I think it's obvious their deperation on this.

Ok, so I'm a sucker - im interested, i predict that i will purchase said digital download - and not be able to use half the features for months. .../shrug

Also, interesting to me is most this stuff has been heavily bashed about the SoE site (sorry) over the last month or so. Did SoE develop ears ?

Epic Weapons, Level Cap Increase (i wish i needed that), Custom Titles, New Disciplines & AAs.

And hopefully the idea of tasks will maybe introduce some new newbie quests.

Ok. Im hopeless, im hooked, I look forward to it..

Heh.. I noticed all the features seemed to be copied off the EQ forums as well Smiley: lol

I didn't buy Gates and I won't be getting this one unless I hear some really glowing stuff about it. Hell, I'm still getting planar flags -- no reason to rush out and get the new stuff yet.

This is nothing more than an attempt to keep people playing EQ. My question is why go with another expansion if they have EQ2 in the works? It makes no sense to have an expansion compete with WoW.

Well, personally, Blizzard will get my $50 before Sony gets my $30.

EQ has ALWAYS been under development. I don't know if you can say that the release of a new expansion is a sign of SOE's desperation in trying to make EQ competitive with WoW. More like SOE is just going on doing what they've been doing for years and, oh by the way, Blizzard happens to be trying to enter the market this year. Knowing Blizzard's track record though, WoW's release will end up delayed until Q2 of next year and EQII will show up on store shelves first.

Quote:

SOE has consistantly maintained that they will support and develop new content for EQ well after the release of EQII. It only makes sense. SOE has achieved and maintained a top spot in the ranks of MMORPGs for 5 years and counting. Why would they just give that up?

Of course it is. Look at the timing between new expansions and major game changes and the release dates from DAoC, Anarchy Online, etc. They always try to make sure to have soemthing big when possible competition comes out.

I still don't see this as a sign of desperation. Yes they want to be competitive, but with a substantial and well established share of the market, I don't think they're sweating too much.

I'm not saying its deperation, I'm saying it'll be released to match the WoW release whether OoW is ready or not because SOE has to try to keep some of the spotlight. And, if the last seven expansions are any indication, it won't be remotely near ready.

Mata Muram is much older than almost every member of his army, and well protected. He is described by Muramites as unmerciful, powerful, a worthy leader - although there are rumors that he is obsessed with revenge against someone. Some Muramites have been overheard describing Mata Muram as some sort of dragon.
Oh, dear sweet Jesus, no. I mean... c'mon...
