For me when my main gets stuck, it helps to start an alt. I drop 3k or so worth of twink gear on him and learn the intricicies of a new class. It seems to help avoid burnout.

I know EQ supposedly got rid of hell levels but I swear the 50's are that. I am 57 and it hasn't gotten a bit better since 55. Every thing is slowwwwww I got half of a yellow last night in the "hot zone" Naddox in 3 hours and was absolutely estatic!!!!! As I have it figured...with NO deaths and NO PK'rs I only need 27 more hours to get to 58!!!! A week or two max LOL

Everyone says get to 60 it goes a lot faster....boy I am hoping. I feel your pain!

semi right on that point.

SoE got rid of sub 50s hell levels. the did not touch the 50+ levels, so yes there are still several hell levels in the 50s and 60s. 59th was a ***** that much i can tell you.

The 50's are tough. I spent most of mine in Dulak either on a boat or in the tunnels. Then went to Torgiran mines. Level 59 seemed to take forever but as others have said I barely remember 60 and 61 is also moving by at a fast clip. The suggestion to take a short break off your main is also valid. Staring at the XP indicater at these levels can be very disheartening. It does all pass though and I ended up making a great deal of money during that time as it seemed to take so long to level I really did not have to spend alot real fast. Keep at it and good luck.

I'm not a mage but the 50s were slow for me as a wiz. I put off learning to solo until my 50s. Finally in the 50s it got to be such a long wait to get a group that I couldn't get any xp at all without soloing. Now I do better soloing than grouping, but I group anyway when I can.

I also started an alt at the same time so I'd have something to play when I couldn't get in a group with my main.

I can only suggest, get in all the groups you can, especially in the 2nd tier planes. Any group at all or an LDON gets you some xp and you just have to stick it out. I was getting two blues per LDON even at 59, which was my slowest level so far.

For my alt I picked a very high demand in groups type of toon so that I'd have a toon everyone wanted to group with, which I didn't see my wizard at the time as being. I picked a bard, but I also considered cleric and enchanter. I think a shaman would be good too. I thought out of those four that the bard soloed the best so that's why I picked it.

55 was horrible-I was there forever. 56 weemed to go much faster, and I am half way through 57. My suggestion is to turn aa exp off awhile and see if it goes faster.

I can relate to the solo/grouping. I have always grouped now I find in my 50's it is harder to get that group. LDON's are less in demand at higher levels. Finding a plane group is hit and miss so I suddenly am learning to solo!

The other thing I am going to start doing to try and deter the drudgery looking at the experience bar is get keys. I plan to start trying to camp shards for my VT key and get the OS key....etc. Gives me a goal when there are down times I guess. I am horrible at playing an alt. I end up feeling like I am short changing Josettee by not leveling her.

Couple of suggestions....

* Several of the LoY zones have recently been given an exp bonus. Solo or, better yet, form a group and head down there...

* LDoNs. Yes, they can be a grind. BUT, if you do 2 or 3 a night, you should start to see the levels move by. The other nice benefit of LDoNs, is that you can get some pretty nice equipment upgrades and augments. Look over the LDoN equipment, and pick a zone that has some stuff you want (for my wizzy it was BB). Start looking or (better yet) forming some groups in that zone.

I can relate, getting exp for my 54 chanter has become a task even with groups lately. Where I used to be able to do 5 or 6 LDONs and be most of the way through a level, now I can do 2 LDONs and not even get 20% of a level.

I have gotten some exp doing POJ and a POI the other day, but most of my old hunting grounds are green or light blue and don't yield anything. Pretty frustrating to be killing dark blues and only seeing one blue tick on the exp bar.

I am hoping that this picks back up soon, but if not will just keep grinding away.

Dulak has steady experience and decent loot (though I've been told it's a bit less than it used to be). Because of wanderers, it'd be best with a partner.

My husband's a beastlord and I'm a magician. We pretty much lived in the shipbuilder's yard for a few levels, then moved into the hidden tunnels. The exp wasn't phenomenal but very steady and pretty safe.

Another place you might want to try is the Grey, at the base of the pyramid. This is an airless stone, so summon a lot of waterstones. Invis up and run out there. Once your inside the broken walls around the pyramid there are no wanderers. The mobs at the base of the pyramid are static spawns. While you're killing the shissars, you can collect their organs to do the quest for this handy item: Amulet of the Grey Wastes.

Again, this would be best done with a partner but probably doable solo.

They Grey is some of the worst exp out there. I would try flies in PoD if you can handle them. My necro as taking down goos at 51 or 52. I believe I did PoN yard trash from 55 to 57. Then I did Gargoyles in PoN to 61. After that frogs in PoS and Golems in PoV. For a mage I would suggest getting a group as it would prolly be tuff to kill anything in the planes solo without being able to kite it.

I also am surprised to see you mention the Grey. It is one of the few zones with a negative experience modifier...

Spent a lot of time in the Droga, nice drops, not many other people around. Most times it was my mid-50s shaman and a 65 sk. Exp modifier because it's a dungeon, true not as nice as the new world dungeons but also not as crazy. I dinged 59 last weekend and spent a couple hours in hate (for sk's hide which of course did NOT drop again) and a couple hours in Nadox/Hate's Fury (won't be going back there till it's no lnger a hot spot). I got about 3/4 of a gold.

Be forewarned though that the Hot Spot I've seen makes me think they have become the new Paludals. Rude people who have obviously just come out of the other "hot" zones to fly through on their way to 65. But you might want to try out the Hot Spots for your level just to give you that push!

Good Luck!

Start soloing PoN, you'll see a big upswing in experience.

Honestly, experience for enchanters is so much faster soloing than grouping, I don't see the point of grouping anymore. The only time I do is if I'm hunting with friends.Smiley: smile
