Beta Signup's in generalFollow

#1 May 06 2004 at 7:30 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone else find it irritating that most Beta signups assume that you are signing up from the computer that you plan on playing from?

I tried to sign up for the WoW Beta and the EQ II Beta from work and they both try to test your system. Unfortunately, my work system doesn't meet the minimum specs.

I never remember to sign up from home. At home, I am playing, at work I am thinking about these things.

Damn irritating...

No, It's common sense really. If you were developing a game would you not want to know the info on the computers that are testing it are? You need to know what you got going on to be able to troubleshoot and eliminate any bugs that may appear.

If you bug a issue and a dozen others bug it, they can compare the systems bugging the issue and see that all of them have something in common like maybe they all are using the same graphics card thus they can figure out where the issue is comming from and fix it.

I know that, but why cant they do what they used to do and just have a form that you fill out to tell them what your system has?

because then they would get a beta test 75% full of eleventeen year olds trying to install the software on their parents 486s that they claimed were pentium 74's with 14 terabytes of RAM

Not only that but have you looked at the dxdiag.txt file? There's a friggin ton of info that is really complex. There's no way you could reliably put that into a form. Most people would not even know all the info in there.
