Possible Sticky ThreadsFollow

Everytime a thread about the best newbie class, best money making tactics, or EQ being addictive comes up the same general answers are given, and someone always suggests that a thread of the type at the time be stickied for all people to read and contribute to. I was bored, so I decided to compile a list of possible sticky threads.

Money Making - A final thread to describe farming trade skill components, list mobs/areas with good straight loot drops, and list Bazaar fodder type items.

Newbie Class/Race Combos - List the pro's and cons of some of the more commonly played race and class combinations, i.e. how a beastlord levels very quickly, or how newbie unfriendly most pure casters are.

Hunting Guides - Perhaps three threads, the 1-30 hunting grounds list, the 30-50 list, and the 50-65 list. Just describe different areas, what to hunt, and how long you can expect to stay there.

It'd probably fit better to devote a separate forum to these, but either way, it might be nice to have a consistent reference rather than the weekly thread. There are infinitely more common post-types, I just can't think of them.

Great idea! I like all the ones you chose. And how about a thread listing accronyms and jargon?

And maybe one to discuss the pros and cons of power leveling and twinking.

And maybe one for game mechanics like common hot key and macro setups.

And how about a general discussion of tradeskilling (with a pointer to EQtraders, natch!)

And maybe I could cut back on the use of the word *and*!!!

I think our admins generally try to avoid using too many stickies (and I agree with them). Stickies should be for things explaining basic facts about the forum you are in and such. There are a million and one "useful topics" that could be in an EQ forum. If we sticky them all, then there's no room on the first page for people actually posting new stuff.

The other problem with stickied topics is that they will get old after awhile. Money making ideas change over time. At what point do we trim away all the 3 year old posts because they are irrelevant. I don't really mind if someone brings up a topic that's already been brought up before. It's just not that big a deal. I would ask that posters at least read the first page of posts before starting a new thread since one might contain the same topic they're about to post on, but keeping posts up on the first page just because seems counterproductive. I want to know what people are thinking about *now*. Not what someone posted a year ago. It's a good thing when posts drop off the first page. And if threads get recycled? Who cares? It keeps things interesting and keeps the conversations going.

If you want to post more specific guides and what not, post them in the various strategy areas on this site. This is for general EQ gabbing, so I think that everything should just fall off as time goes by.

Sorry bro, they smacked you down good...

As far as the other forums are concerned, there is A LOT of ancient material (pre 2003 hehe) contained therin, but I'm not volunteering to clean them out. I do post there from time to time as questions arise in my own play. Sometimes I even get good answers. Still waiting for a reply on a Quest Forum though...

Yeah and boy does my cheek sting! Oh well, maybe we can just chalk it up to youthful exuberence...
