OK, my Ranger became a teenager last weekend and having completed his newbie armor quest and gotten over his fear of dying is now ready to broaden his horizons and stretch his legs!

My question is what were your favorite places to hunt back in the old days, when you were his age? I enjoy questing and so zones that include a good quest or two would be welcome.

I am still soloing most of the time, however, I do have another Ranger to duo with on a pretty regular basis so these outings don't need to be strictly solo. They do need to be something that I can get into and back out of in a single session as I don't know how much time I can spend ingame from week to week.

Also, I'm not really into the whole XP grind thing so don't feel you have to leave something out because it won't get me to 65 this weekend!

(note to self.. view then post... view then post!)

Since my toon is the "Duo", I'd also LOVE to see the answers to this. Like OldBlue, I solo most of the time unless we hook up to have a party Smiley: wink2. Can't wait for the input Smiley: smile

I would suggest North Karana, for the real old school feel. Not fantastic uber lootz, but a fun place in the early teens I thought. Either that or Wisp Isle out in Erudins Crossing.

Just two of my old hangouts back in the day...

Edit: There is also Black Burrow or Crushbone (for those times when you want to experience one of the first TRAIN!!!! zones)

I think you said that you are human and live in Surefall Glade?

So then, have you hunted in West Karana at all?

Bandit farm... Bandit camp along the river... Scarecrows at the farm along the river... Undead camp far east corner near the river?

From West KArana zone in to North Karana down along the river (past the undead camp) and follow the river until you come to a large stone bridge. This is an excellent place to set up your home base for NK - SK - EK. The South Karana border is just across the bridge itself. (Something a lot of people don't know, is that you can also swim across the river under the bridge and zone.)

There is a myriad of soloing/duoing opportunities in these areas. The general zone level is that WK is 12 to 15, NK is 15 to 20, EK & SK 20 to 25ish. But as with most zones you will find green and red mobs either side of these ranges. The point being that if you are 12 and rush over to SK there will be a lot of stuff that will kill you and not much that you can kill. But you can certainly poke your head in for a look.

When you have your companions logged in you should hop across Erud's Crossing and go check out The Warrens. The teens are the perfect time to start going there and you will have immense fun and learn heaps.

There are quite a few quest in and around these areas, best to look them up on the main site but two most Rangers used to do were Morin's Shortsword and Watchman's Boots

I used to like east karana in my teens. There are two places that are good to hunt, but I'll let you figure them out for yourself like I did. There is also gargoyles in OOT. Just watch out for the spectres. I miss the time when monsters weren't able to go into the water and I could escape bad situations.

I would suggest Kurns Tower. Not just because the xp is excellent but its fun to move throughtout the different floors if its your first time there. If you and your duo partner can get a healer, the 3 of you would do very nicely. If you insist on duoing just bring some bandages and take advantage of the new sitting hp regen and being able to bandage while sitting. Just a fun zone and you should visit there at least once in your EQ career.

Yeah, I love Kurns for the teens. Not much in the way of drops, or quests, but I just like that zone for some reason. There are some good drops (Soloists Icy Wand, and the Iksar Beserker Club), but they are rare.

Sounds like a good old fashioned dungeon crawl.

Just one question, What zone is it in?

EDIT: Never mind I found it! It is in Field Of Bone, on Kunark.

Yep, just off the Field of Bone. Great zone for those levels.

One word of warning about Kurns:

It is the mainline pre-paludal location. You will find it chock-full of the same attitudes and PL/KS/camp-stealing situations.

If you want a "Good old-fashioned dungeon crawl" for your level try Befallen. It will be empty. Read up on it first though. And the Warrens could be good too - for a class that has snare.

You can make a lot of PP from those Gargoyles.

Yup 6PP per eye heh. It was heavily camped at once upon a time.

I think Gargoyles may have been nerfed. I went there last week and apart from the spectres there was only one skeleton on the island. I stayed a while (only person in OOT) and nothing spawned. Used to be it was full of skeletons and Gargoyles and you always left a gargoyle up to kill off the skellies. And those eyes were 9pp with good faction.

Which server are you on oldBlue?

I would echo Befallen as a great zone at your level, it is an interesting progression (you need a series of keys to get to lower levels - unless you fall in the pit). There is also a great double quest there where you can pick up a nice broach (from the elf pally's mom in Felwithe) as well as a couple useful items in Freeport (one shot horse and I think the rod that lets you find corpse if memory serves me) - they both come by talking to the pally ghost that spawns after killing skel Foreman. There is a little bit for everyone here, since you get tougher mobs as you go lower. Interesting storyline here if you read up on it.

Unrest, Bandits in N Ro, Orc Alley and Crocs in Oasis are other areas in your mid to high teens. I also liked taking the barrel barge (dock in Oasis) to Island with Ogre shipwreck at upper teens - there are a lot of single spawns outside the huts that allowed you to basically run from one to the next and then back to catch the respawn in a steady flow.

Explore and find your own spots - remember finding Gorehorn and Minotaur slavers (left when you zone in from L Fay on the way to gnome city) and having a blast camping them at level 14.

I'll echo some other people's thoughts with some of the zones, unrest (be careful there), the karanas are huge zones that you can wander deep into and be a long ways from anybody, West Commonlands is good for that level if you're duoing I think just watch out for the hill giant and that freaking Dark elf Gix and also check around the northeastern part of steamfont if that area isn't completely overgrown from underuse.
