Before the whole EQ2 beta system exploded? :)

I got almost all the way through until I got a "Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher is required to perform the System Requirements Test. Click here to read about all of the requirements of this plug-in." message :P

Firefox is a better browser, why is it so hard for people to write an simple app that is platform independent anyhow?

Tried to go back there on IE, and it was completely hosed :)

If the system requires a browser, it is much easier and cost effective to program hooks to existing browsers. That is why. They are focusing on developing the game, not browsers.

I don't know about you, but if I am going to require a browser for my Windows platform game, it is going to be IE. I do not want to have the hassel of trying to support installing and upgrading some off-brand browser, no matter how good it is. 95% of my custoemrs will not have it...they will all have IE or can get it for free and can use MicroSoft's support to get it installed. Leaves my programmers free to work on nerfing the game! ;-)

point is that the 'off brand' browsers work to specs, same as microsoft. The only reason some things dont work on off browsers is because people take 'shortcuts', that happen to work, but arent generally supported, and often break when browser software upgrades. Chances are pretty good that other browsers would support the program. Chances are also good that the people making EQ2 did not make the program to check system specs, if sony even did it instead of taking one of dozens of such programs out there, it wasnt the same programmers making the game most likely. At the very least, it would have been nice seeing it mentioned on teh first page not like the 10th. On the other hand, I couldnt get past page 1 with IE, so I suppose it something.

But really the point of the thread was that the EQ2 beta signup was borked from the start, regardless of which browser you try and use. So people can know in advance how much of a chance they have of getting thru the registration.

They are using activex to scan your system for compatibility to EQ2 requirements, I believe. Your browser may not let them do that.
