EQ and EQ2Follow
Is Sony going to keep EQ around when EQ2 is released? I really want to get into EQ, but I don't really have the system to play EQ2 and would rather not dish out a very large sum of money for a single game.
So far, everything Sony has published and released about EQ2 says that EQ Classic will continue on as normal. Although they do admit that there will probably be less people online. Check out eqlive.station.sony.com for all of their articles.
I'm kind of in the same boat with you as far as not being able to run EQ2. But then again, I really don't think I'm going to go to EQ2 anyway. There is still a lot(most) of EQ that I haven't seen. There are a lot of players that HAVE done everything (well almost). EQ2 will be a good place for those players to start anew in the the World they already love so much.
If you want to immerse yourself in EQ, then I suggest starting with EQ1. I mean EQ2 Beta is STILL 2 months away. (After pushing back the release date countless times) Depending on what kind of player you are, how much social interaction you have, and how steep your own learning curve is, you could see a lot or see nothing of EQ1 in that same 2 months.

I am planning on signing up for beta but as time went on I'm more and more deciding to just stick with EQ.
One if SOE has problems like this with the DX9 conversion for EQ, I can't see it being any different for EQ2.
EQ now has no GMs, why will that be different on EQ2?
Maybe at first you'll have better support, but really, by the time were celbrating the 5 year anniversary of EQ2 would we have no GMs, Customer service would be non-existant, half the classes will be imbalanced, quests will be bugged, and half the world will be filled with idiots who bought characters online
