Freeport Wierd TreesFollow

HEY THERE!
was in Freeport Today 5/1/04 and saw a couple weird trees, one of them was infront of Hogcaller inn, and the other one near the Monk guild, they are not Enchanter bodys, the trees are tall and have spikes comming out of the sides, im sure they have not been there to long because i been playing for a LONG time and never seen them, and also you can climb the one thats near hogcaller inn and actually jump from it to the roof of the near by merchant house, so i would have tried climbing them a long time ago,

any ideas?

I saw something similar. There is a tree almost in the porting area of the spires in NK that I know wasn't there before.

Same thing-was not a chanter/druid body etc.

I believe I got the same message as you. There was a GM event right outside Akanon. I had no idea what the message meant until I got a tell from a friend stating some skeleton army was taking Akanon over. I can only assume I got the message because I am a Gnome. Not sure though.

I haven't noticed the ones you mention but I haven't been in either of those spots for a while. But since my ranger is currently hanging out in Freeport I'm gonna go take a look now.

What I have been noticing for quite a while is that a lot of trees in the outdoor woodsy areas seem to have an animal face in them. Looks kinda like a dog to me!

Just thought I'd throw that in. Call me Rorschach!

I had that problem once. It occurred after I set the option for EQ to build zones in cache to reduce zone times.

I disabled it, and the trees were "normal" again. Since then, I re-enabled the zone cache and never had a problem since.

One other thing might be if you're using a custom UI. If you are, try running the default UI to see if it makes a difference.

I got the same message about "...helping on an adventure", I was getting ready to log, but decided to stick around because I assumed it was a "GM event"...I'm not exactly sure what that is, I've only heard others speak of it...Anyway, I stuck around for half an hour and nobody in PoK ever confirmed anything and I didn't get anymore messages...

So, is there a way to find out the details of a GM event? Did I just not stick around long enough? What is the benefit of one of these events and what typically happens at one?

I too got the "this adventure might need your expertise" last night while in EC. As others have stated, it was too vague to really know what to do. I have never heard of a "GM Event" before this thread, so I am not sure if that's what this was meant to be. Does anyone know what this "mystic voice" means? Also, any elightenment on the "GM Events" would be helpful. Thanks !

Every now and then (more then than now), Sony has their GM's do some kind of event for players to participate in. Usually with a GM event only reward involved.

Not long ago, they held a fishing tournament in Oasis. I was at an event once in LOIO where the GM's gave away a nice little item if you turned a Sarnac Blood into the GM posing as the God Inoruuk.

Once, they spawned a TON of Griffons in East Commons.

You'll see a yellow system message from Sony staff in advance of the event.

The message that I got WAS a yellow one. But how do you know where to go or what to do? As stated, this message was extremely vague. Is there somewhere else that you can go to in-game once a message like that is received to get more details? Does everyone on the server or in a particular zone see the message?

I'll find one in EC and take fix on the /loc then let you know where, although I see them in a lot of zones. Always the same face although sometimes I think it looks like a dog and sometimes it seems more like a cat... Whichever, I'll bet it's the RL pet of one of the artists or designers.

BTW - they seem to be easiest to see at dusk or after dark... maybe something to do with lighting and shadow...

OMG! I thought the faces were just flashbacks from my misspent youth!

Sorry, I can't resist this:

"I see faces"

;)

Will have to check on those spikey trees though--breezed through FP too fast to notice.

Usually for a GM event, the system message (yes Lady r the whole server gets the message) isn't that cryptic. And if it's a GM event I've always seen "SYSTEM MESSAGE:" in front of the announcement.

The zone that the GM event occurs in is usually displyed and they start announcing it about half an hour before the event starts.

If you haven't done so, open the storyline (a button you can click on your toolbar) and see if any further info is available.

Thanks Ralston, I'll check the storyline tonight. Smiley: smile I also got a red message last night that said something along the lines of **Roll of the die could have been anything from 340-420, but the number returned was 388. Any idea what something like that would mean?? If it is a special event of some kind, I would love to check it out, but it's odd that these messages are so damned cryptic.

Either someone running a casino (you "bet" plat and get a return or not based on how high you roll), or a group may have been randoming off a looted item although that's usually random 101.

It's like rolling dice. You type:

/random 1 101 (to roll a random number between 1 and 101)and the message and result you saw shows up in the chat box.

Or it could have been someone who was VERY bored rolling "dice". LOL
