Something in Norrath is not quite rightFollow

I've been noticing a lot of strange things happening in my travels lately.

Creatures that sink into the ground after they die but before you can loot them, or that begin to slip-slide down the incline you're standing on as you loot them. And snakes that dig their heads into the turf as they slither along. (Thus appearing headless!)

The other night a friend and I walked into the big building on the Qeynos docks to buy some fishing supplies only to find the NPC shop keeper with his head stuck in the ceiling! We right clicked on what was left of him and were able to buy and sell goods but it was more than a little unsettling.

The following night in SureFall Glades, I found the general merchandise NPC in the ranger's clubhouse standing up on his sales counter. (He must have been drinking again!)

These incidents coupled with the fact that SOE has set up a dedicated chatroom just to deal with *stuck* characters tells me that they must be dealing with yet another big chunk of bad code.

So, what have you noticed that struck you as odd?

As I leveled a character in Paludal around 12 the other day I noticed at least 10 bugs at any given time that were almost totally invisible due to being underground. I could only target them, as I got "You can't hit them from here" and "You can't see your target" messages when I tried melee or casting. I had to rely on my pet to hit them. A select few were able to be cast upon, but no matter where I tried pulling them they went there underground.

This game seriously has me questioning why I play it as of late. :\

You're right! I'd completely forgotten but I've been getting phantom critters lately too. It's gotten to the point where I recognize some of them as being phantoms now and don't even bother to follow the trail. When the tracker points me in a certain direction, I just think, *Oh, that one again, he's NEVER there* and move on to another target.

Which reminds me, in the last couple of nights, I've also seen a couple of names show up on the tracker for critters that I have NEVER seen in that particular zone. And when I try to run a track on them, I follow the track to the zone edge where it still says *blah blah is straight ahead* Creepy!

I have not had any "stuck" issues, but I have seen more than a few NPC's stuck halfway in the ground lately and had a group member die in a "stuck" incident.
I have never really questioned why I pay for this game even though I have not played on a regular basis for well over a year. The designers have created a fabulous world, bugs and all, and I am just grateful my half-elf bard does not look like a hunchback anymore :). Thanks to all that have helped in my travels, including Sony Guides, developers and employees, Eqdiva, Eqatlas and Allakhazam to name just a few.

sorry, no neat sig ~leai-33 bard~

I died in a LDoN because I got stuck in a door, could not even turn around to get a few hits in at the mobs killing me, came back and happened a second time. And half the stuff I target, tells me I can't cast a spell on it because I can't see it, as I look at it, unless I am standing right next to it.

Then somebody sent me a tell saying I was walking around half underground.

I got stuck in a wall when I zoned, and I can't even count the trees, I have to be really careful running. I am really grateful for levitate, and gate, but they do not always work.

EQ has been bugged to high heaven since the implementation of DX9. I have totally quit playing except for raids cause it is outright impossible to solo anymore without taking a big chance of getting killed.Only time I log on anymore is for raids.

If they want to keep their client base they need to fix this like a month ago. It's no fun to play a game where you die repeatedly cause of bugs.

I've noticed inside Solusek Part-A those goblins were swimming INSIDE of the ceiling and I couldn't target them and they would whack my new Beastlord and they would exploit the **** out of ME and exploit ME and there was nothing I could do. I love how monsters can exploit players but we aren't allowed to do it back.

Also bankers and merchants both in POK who are 1/2 in the ground with only their torso's showing.

I have seen the skellies in DL combine stuck in ground as well as not being able to target mobs that were staring at me. This really bites when you are MH and can't target player in need.
But I thought I'd share the funniest one yet so we could all get a laugh off of Sony's antics....Was in CoM the other day with group, only about 3rd time there, and noticed that the mopbs were disappearing...thought to myself well, everyone is still hitting it because the hps are dropping. Asked myself where did he go? Something told me to look up and sure enough there they were, if mob disappeared ...he was actually jumping as if on a trampoline the entire time he was being hit.
It was pretty funny watching this Golem jumping thru the air as if he had no worry in the world:-)

I was running through PoK to the PoTq book with soe on and when I went thru the archway by the main bank and over the ramp I got stuck in the trees next to them, couldnt sit or mem a new spell. Had to ask a wiz to tl me and that worked. I also have noticed that alot of the mobs when tracked are no where to be found. This was evident right after the first patch for dx9 and I was in Natimbi tracking the fierce crag walker. I tracked to his location but could not find him, most I can figure is that alot of these mobs are dropping under world for some reason.

Got a couple of things to add. Not sure of the first, but I've never had it happen before.

Lake Rathe: Helping a cleric friend go after Lord Bergele. Doing our "waiting" period for him to pop, we had 7 Tainted pop. Normally when a tainted pops, the corrupted pops on top of the dead tainted. Not this night. We found the corrupted popping in various places of the underwater cave. Most of the time, stuck up in the very top edge of the cave.

Lake Rathe: While killing the mobs around the tower in the cave, they would turn to run, like some mobs do, they would go about five feet then disappear. What we found is that they would pop to the very top of the cave and then swim to the top corner/edge. Weird pathing at its best.

I've seen a few incidences like this as well. It's sort of funny to watch a mob half stuck in the floor run around with just their head and torso sticking out.

One thing I saw in Kurn’s one night was that mobs seemed to spawn up in the air above the floor, then just sort of drop into place. I actually saw one of those Burynai badger/mole guys spawn up a little too high and get its head sucked up through the ceiling. He sort of bounced up and down in the air for a second, and then he was just stuck there.

I imagine it's just an issue with dx9 and the associated collision detection problems that cropped up after the change. They'll work it out eventually (I hope).

I too have had someone tell me I had sunk halfway into the ground. But from my perspective everything looked normal. I got stuck in a tree once. I was on my way to Nurga and got stuck in FM. I gated out ok, but was bound in PoK. So I didn't die, it was just an inconvienence.

The one that I've seen that aggravates me the most is when another toon seems to be jumping and ducking as they run around. I get sick just watching that constant bouncing. It's like hanging out with Tigger. I've seen that one happen a few times. I'm pretty sure the person isn't doing it, cause they jump all the way up to the ceiling. That's the one that really bugs me.

Thank goodness other people are seeing this crap. I thought I was having LSD flashbacks from my misspent youth.

I've seen all kinds of PCs and NPCs who were half buried in the ground while walking. Only their chests and heads were visible.

Have also seen many instances of "jumping" toons. Mobs and PCs which jump from the floor to the ceiling in an endless loop.

I've had similar issues w/mobs when they run "runaway runaway". Inevitably, they'll towards a tree, rock, statue, etc & even though I can see the beastie there at the tree running for its life, I can't hit & "Your target is too far away" scrolling like mad across chat. Then, they "warp" about 20 feet away running to beat the band.

Feh. Very frustrating. It's to the point now I just immediately run around the object and wait for the warp.

Had lots of issues w/the targetting. Helped tonnes of folks stuck in doorways & ladders.

Fun times man...

:)

if your tracking and it says you passed it but when you turn its not there its under the terrain and you can use /target (mobs first name)to target then face the targeting ring and attack normally

I've seen the mobs in the groud, but the other night my pet was in the ground when I summoned him in PoN. Even when I used summon compainion he was still in the ground with only his head poping out.

My two cents

While trying to take out the Corrupted Gorilla in EJ:

  • Can't target mobs Smiley: frown
  • Pathing on the PH's (Tottering Gorillas) is out of whack. They spawn inside the stonework of the main staircase in NW area. Can't target them, but they can whack the crud out of you. Smiley: banghead

I've seen a couple of toons that were halfway in the ground...knock wood I myself have not actually gotten STUCK anywhere.

Some of my guildmates have come across a very frustrating aspect of this problem...While camping Diaku raiders in PoStorms for the tactics access quest pieces, they found that even though tracking said Diakus (or their PH's) were up...the were nowhere to be seen. Eventually it was discovered that they must be spawning in the cliffs - they were untargettable by any means, however. Very frustrating when half of the guild is flagged for tactics and we'd like to get everyone else flagged...I think they've submitted several bug reports for it, but so far they're still unable to get to these mobs.

Stay away from the trees in PoK, especially the one between the main bank and the tower that leads to the library and the one behind the main bank.

I've lost count of the number of people I've summoned out of those trees. It seems to be mainly people who are trying to run through the leaves, levitated. Touch a leaf and you're likely to get stuck in the branches.

I assume the same is true for other trees.

I've been stuck in that tree a few times Smiley: blush Not levitated, but I have a habit of running up anything in my path (rocks, trees, walkways etc) and jumping off. When I go through that tree, I jump but don't go anywhere! Good thing I keep myself bound in PoK most of the time.

I also get my Necromancer stuck in the church windows in Kaesora trying to trick-pull Xalgoz. *That* sucks...since I'm bound in PoK Smiley: mad

Sony has more bug issues than they will address. They keep updating bells and whistles but not addressing issues. I frequent the everquest.com technical board and there are hundreds of posts like this. The CSR's have finally stood up and noted that Sony was working on it. But Sony themselves hasn't made an official status on this. One person called techincal support on the phone for help and was told voice to voice Sony had absolutely no issues with anything of this nature or has there been any complaints. Yet thier own board is bombarder with major issues and they have set up a chat channel for GM's to try and help people.

My pet fought in the Plane of Torment this weekend under the ground. Now and again I would see his head pop up when he would kick (he is a monk pet), other than that I had to assume he was with me and obeying.

I have seen people half in the ground. People has seen me half in the ground even though I can't see myself in the ground.

I have lost mobs in the ground and the loot with them.

We have lost half dead monsters to thin air to have them train us after regenerating.

The lag/freeze bug in POK is out of control. I can't walk through POK without looking at the ground. If I cast or someone else casts at times it also freezes me and forces a cold boot. Twice Sunday while sitting doing absolutely NOTHING I froze and had to cold boot. *****Never happens in any zone but POK.*****

The list is endless ........... just like the endless no fixes that Sony provides.

Can you tell I am frustrated?

    *sigh*
