So, has anyone tried out the "hot spots" heralded in yesterday's patch message? What was your experience (both in terms of the xp bar and the zone itself)?

After logging in last night, I decided to make a run to Nadox since I already knew roughly how much xp I got in the zone and it'd be a good judge. I was a little worried when I saw 40+ people in Gunthak and then about 25 people in Nadox. The only time I ever saw more than five people in Nadox before was for Innoruuk raids. However, Nadox is a pretty big zone when you get down to it and the groups were mostly on the Gunthak side (Sentinal room, firepit, trap door, Nautilus room and someone pulling from U. Luggalds for the Pureblood drops). Given that the route to Hate's Fury was generating more trains than Umbral Plains does, I decided to just do the rectangular troll room room off of U. Luggalds.

Experience was... better. It wasn't amazing and it wasn't like going to Padual at lvl 64, but four clearings of the room (about five lvl 55 mobs, a lvl 57 and a lvl 58) got me half a yellow in 64. I could have pulled more, but I didn't want to be a pest and, besides, my AEing skills were rusty and I almost got my clock cleaned the first kite as it was Smiley: eek The nice thing actually was the company. A bit of chatter about the LoY spell quests or people offering quest drops, some talk about the xp, etc. No fighting for camps or pulls but then again, like I said, Nadox is a bigger zone than I think people give it credit for. It was still BYOG as far as I could tell. I saw one or two LFGs, but I don't think they ever got picked up into groups.

I don't know if this Hot Spot thing will really change things; I expect after the weekend people will filter back into HHK, PoJ, Dawnshroud, PoV or wherever the kids are going these days but it might generate some return traffic to a few of the zones.

I took my Enc to Mistmoore last night.

Zoned in buffed up and summoned pet
/who 17 players half of which were anon no other ENCs.
/shout 24 enc LFG
5 minutes
/ooc 24 enc LFG
Bam hit by an unannounced train of about a dozen DEs
Zone out lose pet
zone back in and the game locks up solid for the third time
left to go get some dinner for half an hour or so
log back in
/who 15 players still half anon and still no other ENCs.
/shout 24 enc LFG

I got a drive by group invite and figured what the hell and clicked follow. 24 RNG and 25 SK. We then pick up a 20 something Necro and the RNG goes LD. We couldn't find a single MOB to pull outside of the castle. I quickly found out why half of the people were anon. The entire zone was full of people PLing their alts. Mistmoore doesn't have the spawn rate of PC and simply cannot handle a half dozen lvl 65s PLing their alts. My group decides to go exploring and promptly brings back a Dark Huntress and her pet which quickly and efficiently proceeded to shred my little Ench like a wet paper towel. So I decided to call it a night.

Frankly, I was dissapointed. It's not SOE's fault its just the mindset of allot of people that play the game, and i suppose that was a bad choice of zones to try to get back into the game with. Nobody cares that there might be lower level toons actually trying to play in the zone and they just walk right over all of the groups pulling every MOB they can get their paws on just because they can. Maybe im just burned out, i dunno. :(

I went to Dulak, a zone I am very familiar with having leveled 2 or 3 characters there from ~45-55. With a 56 druid, I killed a few dark blue mobs and was completely underwhelmed with the experience.

I think that the patch message "zones which give a boost to Experience while adventuring in them, in a similar manner to Paludal Caverns" was a little misleading. While I didn't expect a blue bubble per (solo) kill, I did expect to see something along the lines of 1% per kill (and I wasn't getting even that). If they raised the ZEM here, it wasn't very noticable to me with my small sample size. I'm going to spend a few hours here with a more level appropriate character and see what happens.

I hate to be a pessimist, but it wouldn't surprise me if they actually forgot to change the exp. modifiers in all the zones they listed.

Just popped into Nadox with my 44 BL and at a time when it's usually quiet most camps were taken.

An acquaintance let me join him for a few kills at the Shrine Bruisers and instead of a usual 1 to 1.5% per kill I was gaining 2%.

Heading back now ;-)

IIRC the patch message said this was primarily focused to players of level less then 52 (something like 20-51?). Yet they listed zones up to level 60. I took this to mean beyond about level 51 you are not going to get PC like exp - there will be a bonus but not a PC like one.

I took the inclusion of Nadox and Hate's Fury in the "Hot Spot" list to mean "Please, for the love of God, someone visit the Ykesha zones! People worked on these! Look! We'll bribe you with extra experience!"

I believe you will only get the xp boost if you are within the levels mentioned in the patch message. I was leveling an alt in DL with a friend and when he dinged 40 he got a message stating he should head to Dulak's Harbor. Since the patch mentioned 40-45 for Dulak's Harbor I can only assume the hotspots are based on the level of the character. It just seems that they would not increase this for all levels as many 65's would just tear through some of the zones for easy AA. Just a thought, I may be completely wrong.

Now i don't understand how some of these levels were decided because Torgiran Mines has some places that would be good for a low 60s group of 4 or so. I just think this was implemented to try and persuade people to group more. Along the same lines of the group xp modifier.

I tried out both infected paw and gunthak with my level 37 shammy. However, neither zone seems to give alot of exp. I have to agree with whomever said that SOE might have forgot to increase the zems for these hot spots. The experience earned was less than if I was in OT leveling there. This is all group based experience, not soloing.

On the other hand, it was fun again to kick some gnoll butt again and have some fun in Gunthak on the beach.

EQ nerfed the exp a month or two after the Planes of Power came out I believe. My friend told me he was getting about 1 blue per kill in a group in PoV. Saposedly it was possible to level up pretty quickly to level 65 in PoD and PoN at one time. Now you have to move to tier 2 zones after about 57 to make any kind of progress. It's all sony's big plan to suck as much money out of people as they can.

55 - 58 still seems very slow!

I hope Hate's Fury is the place to go. That is awful long run to get there. Bascially get a group in PoK beforehand and when someone has to go ur boned cause no way in hell ur gonna get replacements.

I was in Nadox last night on Rallos Zek, for a little less than an hour and I was alone. I would have to say the AA seened a little faster, but only just. I was charming (I always am :) ) so the charm nerf comes into play, at the end of my time there I killed my pet and root rotted one of the Undead in the lower troll room near stairs to Hate's Fury. I gained a full 3% as shown by my UI. this is a slight increase.

I took my necro, at 45, out to Dulak so I could do my Auspice quest. A few guildies were there (shaman and bst, 55 and 59 I think) so we grouped up and hit the Luggald caves. In about 2 hours I finished the last half of 45 and hit 46 (as well as getting my spell drops)...that exp was very good.
