Every time you post your post count updates in every post you have ever made. Its a dynamic system. Same with signatures, if you change your signature it changes on every post you have ever made.

Individual posts are rated karmawise. When you make a post it uses your default karma rating, like mine for instance is 3.74 currently. So that is what my base post karma is before anyone rates it. Now for instance if someone that has allot of posts (i.e. significant weighting) rates it up to a 5 that post will go up significantly (lets say 4.9) although my default rating may only change slightly (like 3.75).

The more posts you make the more stagnant your karma becomes and the harder it is to change, both positive or negative. When you have very few total posts your ratings make very little difference against someone who has many posts and vice versa. At least thats what I like to tell myself since my karma of 3.74 hasn't changed in months :)

There are people who have taken it as their personal mission to rate down anyone who posts about karma ratings.

AFAIK a rating is a rating is a rating. If Nobby rated this post with an awful, it'll have just as much effect as if Kao rated it with an awful with his 8200+ posts.

However, you're right about karma stalling out. Each time you post, you rate yourself at your current karma rating. So if you were to give this post a 0 rating, you've given it one "0" to average in with thousands of "4.42" ratings. In other words, the chance of someone affecting my karma on a global basis is nil.
