Hot SpotsFollow

While I love the idea, what a lame way to implement this whole thing. Flipping a switch and making these zones better doesn't do much for my overall enjoyment of the game. I fully admit I'll use em for PLing though.

However, it took me all of 2 seconds to think of a different approach (could be better or worse, but in my opinion it's much better) that would not only feel more rewarding, but give people reasons to actually Quest. This game is called EverQuest after all.

Make the Quest give you a new Charm (get the slot used for more than the pop idol thing).

These new charms will be for the old world zones. Each one will give a boost to the XP earned in there to bring them more in line with the PoP type zones.

Could have various levels of the charm as you advance through the quests. So when someone equip's the charm and is in that particular zone, you'll get the bonus.

Could probably include Kunark and Velious zones eventually, but I would start out with just most/all the old world zones. Make the difficulty of the quests scale up as they go, so by the time you get to say a "Sebilis Charm" you'll need to do a difficult kill to finish it.

Otherwise I love the Hot Spot idea.

there are no hot spots, everything is just awfully depressing

yes, use of charms via quests would be a great way to implement the 'hot spot' zones.

heck 1 quest per zone area. IE: 1 quest for Nro, oasis, and Sro. 1 for Ferrot, guk (both upper and lower), and inny swamp.

then you would have to do multiple quests, but would still get the same benefit SoE is looking for.

force players to move back to old world zones and cut the population on the new zones down and reduce the over camping of those zones.

something else those charms should do is increase the loot to more level appropriate.

ie: teens level killing should yield bronze weapons and banded to bronze type armor.

mid 20s level killing should yield better stats on above items. you can keep the resale value low to merchants, but make them so they are usable much like the 'newbie' armor quests now.

that is way better gear then pre PoP days. heck its better then pre SoL or Kunark days. for newbies that is.

great idea.

How about just adding on to the newbie armour <thats how your spell it here in the uk before you ask> Quests that involves bits from the 'Hot Zones' for upgrades for that Armour.

You would have to rehash the old zones a bit but it would make things a little more interesting and give amid level avenue other than Bazaar for people to upgrade.

That's a good idea as well. Adding certain effects onto the newbie armor / Sol Ro Temple Armor that boost it would also be nice.

A 100hp bazaar item or a quested 20hp item that boosts your xp gained by 25-30%. I think I may just quest for upgrades instead of drop 50-100k on a new twink.
