Skilling UpFollow

I've begun to skill up things that I hadn't prviously skilled, (i.e. 1hb and 2hs, my 1hs is maxed), my characters are lvl20ish, but its so sluggish...

So my question is, how exactly is it determined whether or not you skill up in a particular skill during battle? I know that Str plays a factor and the current lvl of the skill must also play a facter...

While in PC my DW skill, and pretty much all other skills that are already fairly high go up pretty often over the course of 1 lvl, but my 1hb, piercing, and 2hs, might only go up a point or two over the course of a lvl (currently they're sub 10 skill lvl)..

So, is there a good way (other than training at gm) to get those skills up to a moderate lvl so they start increase steadily during combat?

I tried this and when I come to point where I'm ready to upload my information to allah, I get a box that says "You've chosen to upload a profile, but a session cookie for allakhazam.com was not found. Do you want to log in now?"...

I click yes, but that just tries to open Internet Explorer, which doesn't work on my computer, I am logged in and currently on my profile at Allah, but via Netscape...I'm guessing the "cookie" that it needs is set up to be retrieved from IExplorer, but like I say IE, doesn't work on my pc (Long story, I've spent many hours on the phone trying to fix it, mostly talking to people in India and such, come to the conclusion that I'd have to rewrite my drive to get it to work, not gonna do that, and besides everthing else works fine, just IE)...

So, is there a way to get around this and upload my characters?

Unless I'm mistaken, for melee skill ups, your DEX and the mob's relative level are what determine how quickly you get them.

You never get skill ups for greens, some for light blues, more for dark blues, etc.

If I'm wrong, someone will be along shortly to smack me down a Gnoll Hole :)

And you can always use training points you get when you level to up those skills.
