need a good supply of HQ bear peltsFollow

I'm interested in having my Gnome tinker/taylor* craft up a bunch of handmade backpacks, (I'd like to do enough to equip all my toons). Soooo... I was wondering where the best place is to hunt for the seemingly rare High Quality bear pelts he'll need.

The weight reduction feature and the extra 2 slots are both good reasons to invest the energy but the 65 to 100 PP each price tag at bazaar has put the entire project on hold and buying the pelts at the going rate of 35 to 50 plat each is also out of the question.

Any favorite haunts out there? Solid tips will be greatly appreciated.

*Yes, I wanted to name him *LeCarre* but it was disallowed.

The bears are most thickly populated in East Commons and West Commons. Although for some strange reason I seem to have more HQ pelts drop in North Karana (not HQ Lion though Smiley: bah

I would not bother with Jagged Pines as the aggro from the general population makes it more difficult.

You can also use HQ Rockhopper hides by the way.

Yup. But they're even harder to find... and more expensive to buy...

Thanks for the tip, though. WC and EC haven't been very good for me but I'll give North Karana a try. I've been wanting to go there anyway. Now I have an excuse!

BTW, if a ranger kills bear or wolf outside of Qeynos/Surefall Glades, is faction among the Qeynos/Surefall bear/wolves affected? I'd sure hate for them to stop being *amiable* on my home turf! Might keep me out of Jagged Pines, and that would be very bad.

What level character is going to do the farming? The reason I ask this is because the poachers in Jaggedpine drop pelts, gems, and plat. In my upper 40's I spent many moons there killing poachers and building a huge stash of wolf, cat, and bear pelts ranging in quality from low to high. Not one single ruined pelt drops. If you are a tailor I am sure you can get some type of use out of every pelt you aquire there.

The part about buying them is true, but I tend to get HQ hopper hides waaaay faster than HQ bear. Just go to Mon Letalis, that's also where one would go (besides DSP) to get Superb Rockhopper hides (sell for 100-200pp ea.)* and Flawless Rockhopper hides (sell for 300-600pp ea.)*, and if you don't get one of those the drop rate for HQ hides on those hoppers is pretty high. The one thing that keeps people from constantly farming this zone is obvious when you get there, and that would be the large population of "scowling-ready-to-attack" stonegrabbers wandering all over the zone. Pop time is also a bit slow... but the zone is covered in Hoppers and stonegrabbers so that isn't usually a problem for most people. The upside to the stonegrabbers is that they drop Fist of Rock, but it is a tad rare. Just don't go up onto the tower in the middle of the area, the Spire Lord wouldn't like that very much =).

*note: prices are based on Mith Marr bazaar prices.

This is a shot in the dark because, while I've been thru it, I've never hunted here because of my facticon. What about the bear caves in Surefall? Its full of bears - I just don't know how they drop. Most of them are static spawns, so conceivably you could run the same route around the cave as the re-pop and hunt them over and over again. Anyone know if they drop HQ pelts?

tarv got it right . the bears in nadaria's landing drop high quality skins way more than any other zone i've tried . if you're looking for sheer quantity of bears i'd go to rathe mountains , near the druids . as a level 60 ranger i couldnt keep up with the spawn rate and never ran out of bears to kill . 1 hour got me 20 LQ , 9 MQ and 6 HQ , along with uncounted (and unlooted) ruined

My advice: Hunt for ruined pelts. Seems I always hit paydirt when I'm looking for something else...

Seriously though, I have gotten many HQ Rockhoppers in Shadeweavers (yup thats right). You just have to spend the time slaughtering every thing in sight including the shades and skeletal whatnots. Not only will you get LQ/MQ/HQ hides, you will get lots of swirling shadows for smithing or selling.

For HQ Bear, I have gotten them just about everywhere bears spawn. North Karanas, E/W Commons, Nektulos.

One thing I have noticed is they come in streaks. I might get none for an hour then, 2, 3 in a row. This also seems true for spider silk drops--maybe I am imagining it--but I think the loot dispenser gets stuck sometimes or creates duplicates.

Again it helps to KILL EVERYTHING in the area. The more mobs that are spawning the more chances for Bears and the more chances for HQ bear pelts.

I wasn't entirely kidding about the ruined pelt hunt. Was in Nektulos helping a lower level get a ruined pelt for newbie armor. Hey, no problem, whack, whack, whack....HQ, HQ, MQ! Needless to say I KEPT those....

Everfrost newbie area is a good place for HQ bear pelts also. Lots of polar bears there.

I agree with people who said Nadaria as the best place for HQ bear pelt. I believe there is cave with bears and they drop quality pelts nearly every time. Also, one other area to check is Jaggedpine hunting pouchers. I know they drop quality pelts often. I am not 100% certain about HQ bear pelts specifically but I do remember getting one off these guys once. Another nice thing by killing poucher is you get good faction with "good" side town folks.

Make sure you save your Low Quality and Medium Quality Bear Skins. There is the Upgraded Pelts quest in Gukta to upgrade pelts from low to medium and medium to high quality.

One turns in three pelts of lower quality in exchange for a pelt of higher quality.

Therefore nine low quality or three medium quality pelts equals one high quality pelt. I think that's a pretty good deal.
