I'm not sure what gems you're on about - there are some used in cultural tailoring (I'm a wood elf, so I use emeralds and blue diamonds). Gems are used in the leather armour quests in both Kael and Thurgadin, but those are quested (handed in to the NPC involved), rather than sewn.

Sorry - didn't realise you were an EQOA player! I don't play that version, only EQ on the PC, so I'm likely to be as useful as a chocolate fireguard for the the info you're after...

You might be better heading into the EQOA area of this website (look up to the top left, where it says 'Choose your Game', and you can get in there) and posting your question on their forums.
