For Necro's out there looking for a tradeskill, treating your research as such can be profitable in the end. I know many of use "farm" to make plat. I have done a little but I found that I simply didn't have time to farm and level. I chose to work my research skill. In the end it paid off I spent a ton to get to 191 but I also saved a fortune making my own spells and now spells to sell. At 191 skill level I completed my level 60 spells this weekend!

If I estimated I would say I have put about 15k into my skill and gotten about 11k back from sold spells. I have saved myself around 20k in making my own spells. Everything from here on out is pure profit. So the 4k investment was well worth all the hassles.

For the record I did not have 15k to invest! I bought and saved words as I had the plat. Made my spells first and what excess I had, I sold then bought more words etc.

A word to the wise.....starting out make spells you succeed in all the time and gain skill. Ex. if you can successfully make a level 35 spell and it doesn't tell you that you no longer benefit from it. Then just make those spells till you have used up all the experience. This will save you a ton of money, give you some spells to sell and quickly raise your level. I got gutsy as I progressed and jumped way ahead and lost some plat in failures due to my lack of patience!

I also researched for others free to gain skill level. I tried to partner with a trader that specialized in words to get them for a reduced price and at times free in return for the spells that were successful. I made my own trader only for spells and undercut my competition even at a loss early on to have plat flow.

Get a Geeklok Quil! It will jump your skill by 5% and allow you to do a bit hard spells quicker.

Having been rippd of a couple of times by ML in LDoN i pretty much always do it myself these days, not so much for mayself sincee pp is almost irrelevant to me at this stage but for other group mambers.

I always offer Words, runes and pages to casters and i am amazed by how often even the rare words <Some sell for 3-4k on Druzzil Ro> heh i even told a chanter once that his rare KEi page dropped and he said and i Quote 'I can't be bothered with all that research crap'

My Wifes necro and my chanter have maxed research and we sell lots of spells at low prices <Rarely over 50pp unless it's a super rare word>

Good advice Jose have a cookie

I think it is the lack of really good information that people don't do it. Also at lower levels they don't realize how expensive it is to be a caster and how hard it is to get your spells. They won't realize the importance of those spells until they don't have them in a fight where they are need.

Ex. I am not fond of my rogue pet. However, I use him when I go on a kiting group. He is the best pet for that situation. I am not fond of my monk either but if he is assisting then he is what I need. If my pet is gonna off tank then I will drop back to my last warrior pet for high hit points.

Ex. Necro's get ONE cold spell. Is a cold spell really important when we have all those others? Well in some zones poison and disease will not land. Your left to magic and cold. Umbral Plains the Elysians resist all disease and poison. They are only affected by magic (Splurt and LDON spells) and cold (the only one we get!). Sure life tap works but you can't live off lifetaps alone.

I have read also that some of the higher end guilds require all caster's to be current with spells. So for those coming up in the ranks you better have a ton of money, some high level friends to camp drops for you or hit the grind stone and learn to research your spells.
