Re-focusing on one CharacterFollow

Afternoon everyone,

Just took a tip from a guy I was grouping with a few days ago and deleted all of my characters except for one(I had 5 of them between levels 27-34). I am now going to focus one my 33 Chanter who I enjoy playing the most.

This was the best thing one can do if you find yourself wasting time trying to figure out what character to play. I simply removed all the gear, stored it my shared bank slot, and deleted the 4 other toons.

Now I look forward to playing EQ again and I can focus on living the life of an enchanter!

Just wanted to see if anyone else has done this and either regretted it or if it worked for them. I don't have the time or the focus to level 5 characters.

I just recently started playing EQ, but I have to say that I could not imagine trying to decide between 5 different characters. I'd never be able to make up my mind :) Besides, I personally am the type of person that really likes to focus my attention on one particular toon and lose myself in their journey from start to finish, but again, that's just me...

You can easily burn out on one character. Most people I know have at least 2.

The 'main' and the 'alt'. When my guild has low numbers on you merely need to look in our app channel to see a flood of low level alts running around. People play other classes to wind down, to play 'something different' and to sometimes escape becoming bored with a character they love (their main).

A single alt can merely provide light relief Smiley: smile

Personlly i thinks it's not a great idea, sure your one char will progress faster but damn you will get bored, 50+ xp is so slow you need a relief from it.

Besides the more exposure you have to classes the better you will be at the class you dictate to be your main.

I think it is Important to have a 'MAIN' charicter but not at the exclusion of alts.

I have the following in my 8 slots.

1. 61 Paladin: main

2. 40 Enchanter: tradeskiller and main alt <250 JC 100+ in all par brewing.>

3. 23 Necro: soloer

4. 36 Cleric: for when i just want to get a group easily

5. 27 Rogue: pet project since it's different.

6. 20 Druid: shopping flunkie.

7. 10 Beastlord: this is a spare slot that i level different classes up in to see what makes them tick.

8. 1 Tradermule.

I guess I am still too new to the game to be anywhere near being burnt out, but I can see that as a definite possibility after awhile.

One main and one alt is a good idea imoo...

I have many alts on numerous servers. I find it is a great way to "wind down" on your main so as to not burn out on one class. My alts are never twinked and I don't worry about leveling them quickly at all. I also find that it is a great way to get to know the abilities of the different classes of the game, making you just that much more valuable in groups. I would never just delete my alts. If you have trouble sticking to one char then maybe you should re-think which class your "main" should be.

All Good Points!

I want to see if my focus will help me get a char up to level 45 or so. Maybe 51 if I am lucky. My highest toon ever was 36 and I thought exp came so slow that I would never see the 50's.

Now I know that the levels get slower and slower to attain and I feel the I am disciplined enough to do it. Once and if I reach my goal then I will be glad to start a new toon with some slight twinkage, of course!

I am just about to ding 34 and get all new spells and a new pet! The challenge will now be to get to the next plataue which is 39!

Rembember the words of little Nemo that my nieces watch everytime they come over.

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!

ROFL - Between me, my wife, my son and daughter we have 4 active accounts (although the kids don't play much anymore). Each account has a full contingent of chars. Over the years we've had friends who have moved to different servers, so naturally we made chars on those servers too. I think we have chars from every class spread across at least 5 different servers. IMO it's BORING playing the same char all the time. I enjoy learning the different skill sets that are unique to each class. We've been play a very long time and we have several 65 and 60+ chars of different classes on multiple servers. Once you've taken a couple of chars to level 65 the game seems to lose something (or it did for me)... I don't know maybe it's just me. When I get bored playing on Povar or there's nobody on that I want to group with, then I switch to FV or Lanys'Tyl or Xev or Bertoxxulous. I guess it's really up to you and what your goals are for chars. ... After 5 years, for me it's just the fun.

Descarte Meditations Arch Lich - Povar
Baen Burningbear lvl 60 Shaman - Xev
Lannier Winterstorm lvl 57 Warrior - Lanys'Tyl

I deleted all mine to focus on one and I don't regret it. Best thing I ever done! I had all my slots filled up with Josettee being the highest. The rest were 17 and under. I didn't enjoy the others like Josettee and I honestly felt guilty not giving them attention. My guildies play many alts and would always want me to swap back and forth but that scenerio was defeating the goals I had for Josettee. Most of those guildies had more time on EQ than I did so I couldn't keep up with them with any toon. I finally took the big step and now I have Josettee, Guild Banker, Trader that is it. I have found focusing on her has been the best idea I had. She will be my first toon to go to 65 and until I get there I can't imagine getting bored with her. I am at a level now to explore zones I never could so it is like starting over. I can see where veteren players with multiple high levels could get burned out easy but as new as I am it hasn't happened yet!

I'm also new to the game and can't imagine NOT using the flexability offered in running multiple toons. Yes I level less often because I'm working on what amounts to two mains but until I really know what I want out of the game I think I should be examining a variety of possibilities.

I am currently running:

1) lvl 11 human ranger

2) lvl 10 human bard

3) lvl 7 half elven bard (about to be deleted)

4) lvl 1 high elven magician (high int baker/taylor)

5) lvl 1 human bard (high cha trader/purchasing agent)

As an aside, there have been several characters that have just not worked out as I'd planned and have had to be deleted. And each time it made me sad to have to poke the button that ended their *existence*.

I clearly remember deleting a halfling druid a couple of weeks ago and getting him stinking drunk on 5th ann. free beer as a going away party!)

Is all of this really strange, or do any of you regret having to resort to euthanasia when a toon has misbehaved?

My going away parties consist of me stripping their armour and plat and kicking them out into the cold...maybe I need to grow a heart.

edit- wrong quote, but I'm sure you get the picture :)

Ahhh... the Mulamen variation on *The bum's rush*.

We used to do that in Baldur's Gate... strip an NPC and send him into the middle of an Orc camp. Very entertaining... Well not for the NPC, I guess but what the heck...

Hmmmmm... A martyrdom, that does seem much more exiciting than my usual way. It's also a little cold-hearted which fits the mold as well. Maybe my next disgruntled toon will find himself perched on the ledge of the hole in paineel shouting "FOR THE GLORY OF TUNARE!!!" and plumetting to his final death.

You're probably going to kick yourself eventually bubspeed.Smiley: cry

I have a bad habit of always changing my main character, and wanting to try new class/race combinations. I used to just delete characters I wasn't working on at the time in favor of something new.

I've recently decided I want to make a beastlord to play around with, and remembered that among other characters I've deleted was a 22 vah shir beastlord and a 43 troll beastlord. All those spells I bought I've got to get again, not to mention go back through the low levels again(probably my least favorite thing to do in everquest and I'm stuck going through them yet againSmiley: mad).

Don't even get me started on my very first toon I ever had in the game, a 29 mage that I deleted in favor of a warrior because I couldn't afford spells at the time.Smiley: cry

The point is you'll eventually want to take a break from the enchanter, or maybe meet a group you enjoy hunting with who have a bard already but really need a tank, and you're going to be missing those characters sorely when that happens. Just because they exist doesn't mean you HAVE to play them, and focusing on one class to the exclusion of all others isn't always the best way to goSmiley: wink2

I don't think focus and having toons are mutually exclusive.

I ALMOST deleted my Wizzy at level 24. Thank the Gods I didn't. He's now 53, and can jet around and pick up stuff for my other chars.

I play my Pally almost exclusively these days. But on nights when the guild isn't up to anything, or I can't catch an LDON, I have my toons.

Just made a Ranger. And I more or less made him to have a tracker in my pocket. So, when nothing else is going on, I play him for a couple hours. And my Necro, Warrior, Mage, and Shammy are all mid 20's to mid 30's. I seldom play them, but they're there. When I need a break from the Pally.

I probably wouldn't have deleted all my old characters...just focused myself on my "main" and ignored the others. Oh, wait, that's what I do now... Smiley: grin

I'm having too much fun being 65 and getting AAs and LDoNs and even farming to want to play any of my alts. I imagine I will get bored sometime...but I don't want to play my 33 Ranger when that happens, I know I want to make an Enchanter or a Cleric next, although I still haven't fully decided. And it will probably be many days down the road. I'd like to wait until I can afford to twink him out a bit...nothing spectacular, just a few focus items like Improved Healing II for the Cleric or something similar for the Enchanter. And I'll want to do the Solstice Earring for each one, and the Fine Antique Ring...stuff like that. They definitely won't have maxed INT or CHA or WIS at level 1 or anything like that. Just a few things that will last a long long time. The rest can be filled out as I go along.

If you're having fun, you made the right decision!

Game on,

The Oneiromancer
