Hehe but seriously. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that there are alot less people playing EQ right now? I usually go LFG in several zones on a normal basis and a month ago there were usally 20-30 people in zone but lately it's been more like 10. What is going on? Everywhere I go it seems like half the people have vanished? Did that 10 day server issue really cause alot of people to quit playing?

Correct me if I'm wrong but if 1000000 people are talking about this then there must be something to it.

There are still just as many people playing, but the vast majority of the population is level 60 plus. So if you are looking for a group in the lower levels there may not be a lot of people there. It does not mean that a lot of people are not playing.

Try this, do a

/who all 25 results 5-10 people
/who all 55 results 100+ people
/who all 65 results "to many people to display"

Yup, that's pretty much what I'm thinking. Plus with the semi-new expansion that is a very high level one, people are probably putting their lower level alts on the shelf for a while, or until they get bored of GoD.

There does seem to be a thinning out at the moment.

I notice it in bazaar trader numbers. Where the bazaar was previously full and sometimes you had to wait to go on trader there are maybe 100 or so less at the same times nowadays.

It may well be the time of year. Spring affects some people that way.

1. The graphic's engine upgrade still has some people on the sidelines.

2. WoW beta has taken some people.

3. I think the "5 year anniversery" kind of hit some people as "wow, I have been playing this for 5 years, time for me to do something else".

I actually noticed an increase recently in the number of people in my level range to group with. I used to have to wait a half hour or so to get a group, but recently, I can get in to a group as soon as I log in almost.

Just wondering if your dog also has a toon and if he has good faction with the Gnolls...

If there is a decrease, it's slight one. Spring, CoH about to start (I bet that will knock more people out than you would think, not quitting, but playing EQ less than before) WoW beta being as large as it is... Getting closer and closer to exam time for those still in school/college...

Quite a few factors that normally kick the EQ population down. There's a cycle, and I doubt it will be permanently broken until CoH, WoW and EQ2 are all out. EQ is beginning it's downturn in it's product life cycle, but it's going to be a fairly slow one, don't ever expect the game to fully die out. The people that do remain though will almost exclusievly (almost) people that have pleyed awhile, you will see very few new people entering the game, especially when WoW arrives (same genre).

So get to the upper 50s at least sooner (shoot for 65), as that area will be the place to find groups in 6-8 months. Below that you will almost exclusively be dealing with twinks, and they will shoot to the upper lvls fast.

There has been a downturn of interest in EQ. Even for the level 65's. On a druid perspective it has gotten very very hard to solo in the last month with the falling through the world and mobs 'skipping' also pet buff spells were messed up badly for awhile.

Savage spirit just plain didn't work for awhile. And still even now I am getting immense lag spikes from time to time that last 6-10 seconds. All of this together has really made it to where I don't even want to bother playing.

I don't see where you all get the idea that GoD has taken alot of the higher levels I have been popping in there from time to time trying to scout for raids and seeing if I could get a trial group and the place at least on my server is outright deserted

Sad EQ addict here. I read this:

and my first thought was "That's a lousy ratio".

From reading what I have about EQ2, I think EQ2 is going to suck... A LOT!
Flame me if you wish, but no kiting? GIVE ME A BREAK! That's the most fun thing in the game- for me, at least.

My impression is that they've taken eq, broken it down, removed the essential bits, filled it up with awesome graphics, and are trying to sell it as the game that will finally kill EQ.

They're not getting my money, just yet. Not to hijack this post-- I think no one is on because 1) it is close to finals time and 2) it is SPRING!

I really don't think the end of EQ is near... Lots of other druids and necros think that kiting is great fun. I would give up all the new graphics if that was the only way for me to keep doing what I would enjoy. EQ2 can take its awesome graphics and lack of kiting to someone else's house.

You have to keep one thing in mind.....

If the number of people playing were a constant number, all the zones would still be thinning out! Why? Because there are more zones!! Every few months another 15-20+ zones are added so people have more choices. 3 more years from now everyone will be able to have their own zones! Smiley: laugh
