Roughly 70 percent of norrath is water. there are rich, well established ports all up and down the coasts. No royal navy. The time is right to strike!!!!!!!!!!!!

Class: Pirate
Races - All but High elves and dwarves.
Factions - KoS to most non evil factions, and some of the evil ones, howevergiven an innate faction modifyer spell that increases in efficiency with time. Brand new pirates will get killed alot in cities, a mid level pirate can go for half an hour with no chance of detection provided they don't attack anything, etc.

Progressive faction quests, based mostely on bribeing certain government offials to gain favor. Epic is a self only extreme faction modifier item for when said pireate becomes pirate governor

Skills - Melee, scimitars, cutlasses, daggers, ranged skill - Cannon (only usable onboard ships and pirate fortifications), throwing daggars. Somewhat of a rogue skillset. Maybe piratical spells at a later level. Can summon a parrot at lvl 50. Swim modifier +10 over base regardless of creature, small craft speed modifier

Armor - leather only. Chain+ water = Bad

I dunno. what do you all think?

I see the parrot as more of a familiar, increasing your Mana pool and mana regen rates. As we all know, the parrot is generally the brains of the operation.

Everytime you get hit there is a small chance that the parrot gets hit instead.

Home city would have to be Dulak, or Gunthak.

Sea Chanties = bard like skills.

Yo ho blow the man down.
a spiderling takes 1200 pts of non-melee damage...

Non agro-Charm abilities on other NPC pirates. Agro if you forget to turn auto-split on.

All pirates are required to have at least one citrus fruit per day to prevent scurvy, which does roughly 15 damage/tick once you develop it.

Specialized kicking skills, with the peg legs and all that some will possess.

Those translocators will have to be done away with, forcing more people to take boats. That way we have something to pilage. If you're a land-lover pick pocketing would be a necessity as well. The parrot won't fight or enhance you really, it just screams a lot of cool things. Who wouldn't want a little parrot summon that mounts their shoulder, anyways? No matter how useless, coolness skill +200.

Include halflings in the no-pirate races, also. They just don't fit the image. Frogloks too while we're at it. This crap is too good natured.

Actually, I can see halflings being pirates. After all, SOMEONE has to cook on the boats, right? And they are known for occasionally being sneaky little thieves.... Although you'd think the froglok anatomy would make them perfect for anything water-related, I agree their personality makes them unsuited for a life of piracy. And I think Vah Shir should be excluded from being pirates as well...cats and water don't tend to get along well.

I can see the summoned parrot having some cool abilities...like Mimic...which would trick an NPC into thinking you are where the parrot is, as long as neither you nor parrot is in line of sight (ie, aggro on the parrot instead of on you). Birdie Bombs (ok, someone come up with a better name for it) ...your parrot craps on your opponent's head, it runs into their eyes, and temporarily blinds them. Distract ...the parrot flies into the mob's face, distracting them so that one out of every four attacks will be toward the bird instead of you...

Arrrr Matey, 'Tis a fine plan ye have. A plan so bold i say, that ye could spilt a yardarm to hoist sail in the scurvist of Neptunes storms. Arr.

I think it would be worth it just so i could use 'Jack' speak All the time and get away with it.

And no Halfling pirates either they are scared of water.

So hmmm. How about like this:

Hum, Hef, Gnm, Bar, Trl, Ogr, Def,

1hs, 1Hb, Pierce, Thrown. <No Bows> and Pistol as new weapons?

Rogue abilities but not Backstab

Melee tables of Monk.

Leather Armour only.

+100 Swiming.

That would make a Monk/Rogue Hybrid with Panache.

They should definitely be able to dual wield.

How about, instead of summoning the parrot after 50, why not make the parrot the Epic? Either that, or make an eyepatch the epic. LOL

Kao, are you psychic?

My guild on Vallon Zek is named "Pirates of Zek"! We just roam the land, raping and pillaging (PvP) from one town to the next. If this class were introduced, I'd be the first one to sign up!

Epic could be a sabre or a rapier. Maybe have two, like rangers, with the secondary beinga sword breaker and such.

I'm all for it. Where do I sign the petition to SOE?

loads but none would sucseed, jack is a common name so i bet the 1 per server has long since gone and sparrow has certainly gone on Druzzil Ro.

The infantile minority would have to resort to Jakk Sppaarroooww and other such mind disturbing butchering there of.

Don't you know laddie 'tis bad luck so speak o' the capin' like that ye scurvy dog. Arrr

Class defining:

Pirates can have daggers equipable in Face slot.

Innate ability to hold breath longer than other classes.

Have Alcohol Tolerance level at 50 to start.

1HS weapon:
Pirate Hook
MAGIC LORE (really only one hook would seem right)
Slot: Primary Secondary
Damage: 11 Delay: 20
Dex: -2 Agi: +5 HP: +25
Wt: 1.0
Effect: Dead Man Floating
Triggered. Unlimited.
or
+2% Mod to forage (easier to hook flotsom)
Class: PRT
Race: ALL

#18 Apr 23 2004 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
I was thinking more along the lines of adding a peer-to-peer file sharing app to the EQ client. Usable only by the pirate class of course.

You would still have many Jack Sparrows, only like:

Jjacckk Ssspparroww or Jaaaaackk Sparrowwwwww or Jahck Sparerow

Love it when peeps do that, the cleverness!

Arrrr Matey, grog!

A climbing skill.
A spyglass of course.
Along with peg legs, a hook is mandatory, agree with Dothammer there.

Alcohol +100, swimming lots of sailors did not swim.

#21 Apr 27 2004 at 9:12 PM Rating: Decent
all you money would have to be carried around in treasure chests... gold and gems only. What the hell is Platinum?

And extra inventory slots, several more ear slots, nose slot, fingers, and teeth.. Need more room for rings, earrings, nose ring, and of course the Golden Tooth (earnable by quest at level 1 and then gains stats every few levels)

WTF, dwarves are piratical.

Vah Shir, now, they'd never be sailors.

Yes but, it would need to be "balanced" for proper game play.

Pirates would have to have limited run speed, once the peg leg was equipped max speed would be reduced to something of a limp and movement enhancement spells would not be alowed to take on the pirate class.

On land they would stagger around rather than walk.

Pirates would never be able to raise their Charisma above 0. But would have a special race modifier that gives them 200 Charisma with Trolls.

When ever venturing upon land pirates would be susceptable to a new type of spell that would become an inate ability for all non pirate females (regardless of class or race). This would be the pirate charm spell. Where any female (PC or NPC) would have the ability to charm a pirate and make him/her forget his mission/purpose and follow the female around in a trance for variable period of up to 30 minutes.

Certain islands scattered around the oceans of Norrath would permit pirates immunity to this spell while the pirate remains on the island.

I would argue that Pirates would have high Charisma. Certainly Cap'n Jack Sparrow had more charimsa the Vexidus maridius boringus of Gladiator fame.

So hmmm. How about like this:

Hum, Hef, Gnm, Bar, Trl, Ogr, Def,

1hs, 1Hb, Pierce, Thrown. <No Bows> and Pistol as new weapons?

Leather Armour only.

+100 Swiming.

That would make a Monk/Rogue Hybrid with Panache.

I think that would make a rounded Class.
