2 Box Necro and?Follow

#1 Apr 21 2004 at 6:37 PM Rating: Decent
I need a bit of help. I have never 2 boxed before (hehe this is starting out like a Penthouse letter.. not that I've ever read one of course)

I am getting a laptop for my office, and now could run a second toon. Normally I solo because of limited time. My previous characters going back almost 5 years now are a Cleric and a Warrior. Neither seems good to 2 box with a Necro.

Has anyone had experience duoing a Necro and another toon?

How does a Necro PL said toon?

Any comments on Necro and BL?

I really enjoy my Shammy/Ranger 2-box.

I would go with an enchanter, probably.

I think a Beast is a solid choice too.

Necro and Chanter? I never considered this.

So what do I do with the Necro to PL the Chanter? Never was PL'd, Be gentle with me now..

I would probably go with shaman because they can heal, slow, and buff the pets up. Necro can only slow undead. When you 2 box I would think it would be better to have a combination of two classes that can tank/heal/slow/pacify.

First off, Dead Horse response to a Dead Horse issue:

Play what you have fun with!

That said, yeah, I would think a BL would be a fun class to duo with a Necro. Two really good pets, and with the BL buffs, the necro pet would be insane. Throw on some mage pet gear, and you got two home-made Warriors.

On a secondary note: Why PL anyway? Aren't there enough gimps in the game as is?

After 5 years.. I don't think Helping my little toon would make it a gimp. I know where the assist button is, know where the hometowns for them are and who can cast SoW etc.

If you outlaw all deadhorse posts then the board will become a library with no new additions.. everything has been hashed over many times. I thought that link led to more than a picture. I guess you didn't want to go through 60 pages of threads either. :)

But thank you for the advice.. a beastlord seems like a good fit.

Necro/BL is a great combo. You get SoW for travel too. Also think about Necro with a ranger or rouge. Rouge doesn't add much besides DPS though.

I have so little experience playing other classes. Just the basic classes of cleric and warrior prior to my necro.

I would think that 2 hybrids would be good. A bard is out of the question, its main strength of twisting songs is too much for me to deal with and I hate playing poorly.

Although I am completely ignorant as to playing a ranger, it seems to be one of the "active play" toons. By that I mean like controlling a bard. Many things to do. I wonder if it lends itself to 2 boxing easily.

Rangers are great in the 2 box. In my case, I pull with snare run back to my shammy which by the time the mob gets to my ranger the shammies slow has already landed, and just as the mob get to the ranger you sick your dog on him too, hit my canni macro (canni, pause, canni, pause, canni). Then switch back to the ranger and start kicking his ***. It is very useful to have a macro set up for shammy to canni 3 times at the push of a button.

The BL would be better if you want to stick with the necro, you really have 3 tankish sort of fellows in front of your necro which is very nice considering you are playing by yourself. BL pet is MT, necro pet is DPS, BL is healer and slower, and necro is CC. Pretty wide range of skills for 2 toons.

Hummm you might try different classes as your second toon grouping with your necro while his a lower level and see how you like it. Unless your in a big hurry to get him to the higher levels.

I two boxed my necro and druid from lvl 10 all the way to 65. I don't think there is a better combo in the game, period. Snare /fear /send in the pet rules. Or you can just root and dot. How you fight is really up to you and your sytle of play. Both tactics work well. A necro pet makes a good tank with STR and Skin and when the mob his feared he'll do great damage because he is constantly attacking from behind instead of face to face. When I used to farm sunlight in skyfire, I'd snare the chromas, fear them, send in the pet, and cast my dots and nuke when they got around 20%. At 500p a vial on Povar, I made some really decent cash in a short amount of time. Chromas don't hit hard, they just debuff you, so it's really no big deal to hunt them. By the time my necro and druid reached 63 - frogs in POS were a breeze. Snare. Root. Dot. Nuke.

I now 3 box with a ranger, chanter, and shaman and they're all sitting around lvl 49 right now.

Descarte Meditations Arch Lich - Povar
Cait Packleader Storm Warden - Povar

Necro and Shammy would be amazing.

Can still root/rot as Sham and Necro both have extremely powerful dots. Shammy can buff pet and both chars. Shammy can also heal/slow at higher levels enabling you to kill tougher Live mobs than you would normally.

An easy way to level up the shammy, after the initial breeze levels, would be to have necro take the mob down to 3-5% and then FD/ST the mob to clear hate and then have sham finish the mob off to get all of the xp. It works pretty well once you get it down.

Good luck

I would go with shaman, mage, or wizard.

The problem with BL is you will be stuck with BL tanking instead of pets tanking :0/

Mage would be nice to have pet toys (eventually) and 2 kick *** pets with HUGE damage from the casters. Wizard is nice because they don't require alot of attention and have big booms. Shaman is nice for utility and you can group a melee wiht you if you wish.

Personally I think mage goes best with necro.

As far as p'lvl goes with necro, it is pretty simple. Let the low lvl get the monster down below 50% then sic your pet on the monster. As your baby gets higher, you can smack a lifetap on a mob to get it down to 10-20% then FD and let your twink finish it off (FD clears your damage on the mob). Also you can feed mana to the casters. In all honesty necro is one of the best PL classes out there. They can also heal with hp transfers hehe.

I'd go with Shaman or Druid just for the root-rot and fear-kite potential, though Beastlord would be another fine choice.

Necro-cleric duo is actually one of the easiest combinations to 2 box. Granted you can't go duo raid encounters with this combination, but for regular experience grinding they're just fine.

The necromancer has the pet to hold aggro, he gets massive DPS, and the cleric has the healing capabilities to keep the pet alive no problems. There's the added bonus of not really having to keep an eye on both characters at the same time. Sit the cleric at the pull spot, bring the mob, get your pet and DoTs working on it, if you need to use the cleric to heal the pet, just cast feign death and you don't have any worries about your necromancer while you're concentrating on using the cleric.

I play a Necro and starting out I grouped with a Shadow Knight not that it gave us any advantage it just was what two friends chose to play. When my Necro leveled to 20 my friend played his 20 Cleric. That combination took us up into our 50's. Not sure we persae powerleveled but I am sure we leveled fast with the constant healing. Now in my fifties I play a lot with a Druid and that simply rocks. Druids are so underated at lower levels but at high levels are just admirable in my opinion. The control over movement, transportation, dots, healing and buffs are incredible. I think if I were going to 2 box I would go with a Druid at higher levels the combination is great. A friend two boxes he has a Cleric/Chanter/Beastlord at level 65 and now is working on a Necro/Druid/Ranger at level 56. Perhaps those two combinations will give you an idea.

Thank you all for the responses. I really appreciate it.

If I might turn this just a bit.. what would your suggestions be if I 2 boxed primarily dungeons?

Also I am not not in any hurry to level. My Necro is 54 btw.

/em nods.
A friend of mine always 2-boxes her necro with her Beastlord. The Slow/Sow and angry pet combination seems to rock. At 65 they can own Veksar, Nadox, Hates Fury by themselves.

I imagine a Shammy would work well too.

Welp since you are dual boxing well there are several options....

For 2 people great combo would be a wizard and a necro but your dual boxing my suggestion is having the means to heal and dot targets... the advantage behind a necro is that they have the bility to rez at high lvl however in an emergency situation (since you can haste your pet but dont have the means to buff it) go with shammy or druid... Druid has an advantages behind the class that includes healing dotting and evacing...

Shammies have untility buffs that can increase pets stats and slowing targets(necors can only slow undead) not to mention shammies have dots...

Some of the necro pets are kinnd of weak...

A very sick combo would be a Mage and a necro or even a beastie and necro..

For dungeons you want a cleric. Can buff your pet and pacify for single pulls.
