Yes, dont play a bard. Its a difficult class to play and you dont appear to have the ability.

You will rarely see a bard with LFG up for long, as it is one of the greatest utility classes in the game. Oh, just in case you're wondering what a utility class is to me, it's a class that can do a lot of different things well.

Edit. Forgot to say bards dont fight solo mobs, they quad kite.
All they need is a bit of room to run around in.

Not a bard so don't ask me for details.

In the right place and with the right skills they are probably the best soloers in the game. There is a dire shortage of skilled ones though.

You will likely not see them LFG but meet them when their swarm comes through your camp.

Yep, bards are one of the best solo classes, but when you run around all day playing a ukulele you have to get used to being by yourself a lot.
:p

Back to topic for just a second, bards don't really quad kite. They have a lot of options to kite, usually chant kite (playing 3-4 dots on 1 mob and running in circles), swarm kite (charming one mob and letting his buddies beat on him till he's almost dead, then breaking charm and killing him for full experience) or AE kite (getting as many as you possibly can and hitting them with your AE songs). Chant kiting is the easiest with the least risk, then swarm kiting. AE kiting is extremely dangerous, as our AE songs are all (except Denon's Desperate Dirge) point blank songs with a very small range. If you have 30+ mobs chasing you and you slip up for a second, you're probably dieing. If you ever see a bard AE'ing and ask him when the last time he died was, 10 to 1 he'll tell you "Today". The upside is with one successful kite, you could make all that experience back plus some... or you could die again. It's not a tough class to play, but a it's a very tough class to play well, and people will remember you if you're not a good bard, since when a bard messes up, it's usually BIG. Oh, and I'll bring the Spoons. I can play a mean Dueling Spoons. "Clickity clack clack clack clack clack clack clack...."

My friend has a 65 bard.... I remember when her bard was around 40, she used to kite 2 HG's in rathe at the same time by charming one. They would beat each other till one died then she would finish off the last one herself or charm yet another HG to do it. She used to get horrible tells from ppl telling her she was hogging all the HG's for herself. Needless to say she ignored them and made a ton of pp. When we were in our late 50's she used to kite all the toilers in ME. I've seen her kite as many as 25 mobs at once, although I've heard of bards doing more. She is amazing and so is her bard.......

Hmmm, I'm curious, but what part of the OP's post gave you the impression that he wouldn't have the ability to play a bard?

The fact that he doesn't know something and is willing to openly ask for information about his question says good things about him, not bad.

Heheh.. I used to love swarming toilers. I don't know why, but nothing else has quite the same comedic effect as watching twenty-five little black moonmen running up over the hill at you.

Mulamen - rofl..... She and I met at orc 1 when we were both lvl 7 just after EQ was first released. I have never met her in RL but we have played together for years. She's been married for 30 years and has 4 grown kids. She still has great sense of humor and will not hesitate to stop whatever she is doing in the game to help someone who needs it. She truely is one of the most knowledgeable EQ players I know... If you play on Povar her name is Lilandrial. Look her up.

My first toon is a Wizard and my second toon is a Bard. I made the Bard because it could solo and also I figured I'd get far more invitations to group as a bard than I get as a wizard.

This is a very good site for how to solo as a bard. My bard is only up to 20 and I haven't actually soloed with him yet and I do hear that the range of the bard AoE songs has been nerfed a couple times but it still looks like a good site to me and it was what convinced me to play the bard.

http://www.eqdiva.com/EQ/Guide.aspx?id=75&ForumID=132

Poke around the site, that's just an interesting kiting guide that I linked there. There's a lot more.

I love the bard so far. Bards are very versatile. I haven't found it difficult to play except when the group wants me to pull and play my healing song with an instrument at the same time. It gets to be a lot of work switching instruments and weapons. That site I linked tells you how to do that too, btw. When I'm just using weapons and not switching back and forth with instruments, playing the bard is pretty easy even when twisting. It's not as easy as a wizard where you sit around all the time between nukes with little to do, but it's not hard.

Yeah, it's not too bad in the early levels. It's kind of like being a ranger in the early levels, just with a few more key presses. Where it starts to get tougher is when you have a whole bunch of songs to choose from, and you need to be able to change songs on the fly, knowing exactly which song does what and which songs stack with other songs. Just like a caster, right? Not really... at 55 I have a group pure haste song, a group haste/stat combo song, a self only haste song, a stacking haste song (stacks with shaman/chanter haste) and an overhaste song (increases the level based haste cap). You need to know which songs are going to benefit you. It is sometimes beneficial to play the haste/stat song, even though it doesn't stack with shaman haste, just for the stats. Or you may not need the overhaste if no one in the group is near the haste cap...

Also, it gets tough when you're in a group and they want you to lull, pull, buff/heal/mana during combat and do CC. You don't have to be a superman to play a bard, but you need dedication if you don't want to be a 2-song twist wonder.
