I am thinking about starting a monk, and I dont know which race to choose. So basically I would like to know the pros and cons of both races. Including: Who can take a hit better, Who can hit faster(i once heard humans could but am not sure), and which race is easier to level. Oh and go ahead and rant on about anything else is pertinent to the race/class.
Iksar can "take a hit better", all other things being equal, since Iksar gets an innate AC bonus.
Humans get a bonus decrease to delay when attacking bare fisted. I'm not sure how much that matters since I never see monks fight totally weaponless, but there it is.
Iksar take a 20% penalty on xp in exchange for their AC bonus, innate forage, regeneration, base swim skill of 100, etc.
Humans don't have the faction issues of Iksar, but with Luclin and PoP that might not matter.

So basically Iksar are the statisticaly better monk. But it is a decision of if I want to take the exp penalty. Well with that out of the way is there any important things I should know before making my monk?

seriously, but I find humans (especially females) much more attractive. and I (I repeat, I) like a bit of roleplaying during mana breaks. funny as hell, to flirt with the guys (although they know you are male). makes the whole exp grind much more enjoyable... well, until some troll invites you to his troll hole

Humans level faster than Iksars. I have heard that they have slightly more base HPs but cannot confirm. Humans can also do slightly more damage than Iksars (mainly because they get nothing else).
Iksars get natural AC boost which stacks with Monks AC, natural regen, infravision, swimming (starts at 100), & forage.
Humans are KOS in a lot less places than Iksars.
Iksars have XP penalty.
Those are the basics - I would choose to be Agnostic also.
If you are comfortable with the game and know the mechanics, pick what race would best suit your needs.

Look at quests as well. Both races can do the monk quests from Cabilis and Freep/Qeynos, but I think it is easier for the Iksar to do the Human quests than vice-versa.
If you want to be (more or less) unique, be a female Iksar monk. I've only ever seen ONE. I know not as 'attractive' looking as the human counterpart (well maybe it is to other ikkys).
I have a (male) Iksar monk, who has done the shackle quests up to Steel and the Purple Headband/Red Sash quests. I enjoyed doing all, some I've done several times. Also no one mentioned lack of night vision for humans. As far as the xp penalty, you may not even notice, I sure haven't, cause you will be having fun in the front line.
The other thing about a monk is the AC weight penalty. AC goes down if you carry more than a certain amount based on level. Just an added wrinkle but then again we get FD, Mend, Sneak, Safe Fall, Intimidation, Disciplines....
