Okay, so we learn lessons from others, but sometimes too late Smiley: glare

My 1st toon was a Wood Elf Druid and I had no clue about EQ. Didn't add any WIS to start-up stats (I know, I know Smiley: oyvey)

I set him up with 1HS and before I discovered Allakhazam/My Guild/My brain, I was in my 50s with Maxed 1HS but no skill in 1HB or 2HB.

Now as I want to be a rounded character (Yes I'm sad enough to skill-up in all the languages even though I don't role-play) I like to max whatever I can and am now trying to skill up in Bash.
So, some questions for my learned colleagues:

a) - Is there any point now?
b) - Is it true that I can only skill up beating on Dark Blues or higher?
c) - Is there truth in the rumours of skilling up melee skills against High Level player pets?
e) - What happened to d)?
d) - Ahh there it is! Smiley: grin
z) - What unlikely novel was written by the author of the 'Pink Panther' series of Movies? (So what's wrong with Trivia?)

Umm, Nobby I'm pretty sure WE Druids don't get Bash as a skill? I guess you mean 1hb.

You can get skill ups with light blues, but they are few and far between.

Yes you can skill up against a pet, but the whole duel thing is a PITA IMHO. Smiley: smile

d) No idea, in fact wasn't aware that there was a single writer for the series. (Actually though that most of it was ad libbed by the inimatble Peter Sellers). So, did Blake Edwards actually write a book?

Nobby,
I have been using the Boat engineers in Dulak on the Storm dock, for skill ups.
With a shot of Virtue I can snare them, root them, and then beat on them for about 10 minutes with a few heals in between before they die.
They seem to hit for less than a hundred.Smiley: smile
After I have used those two for skill up, I then move on to clear the boat until they repop.

a) Not Sure.

Your Epic is 1HS. If you are working on it then the other skills may be superfluous. I don't know enough about high end weapon drops for druids but from the number I see blowing leaves it must be good for a long time. If you are not doing your epic then maybe you should skill on other weapons.

b) As Iluien said, much less chance of skill up on light blue.

c) Yes you can skill on pets. However they still need to be blue to you.

The unasked question I'll answer for a bonus point is how to skill up without using pets. Do a little kiting or root-rotting. When the mob is almost dead and turns away but is snared you can beat on it untill it wears out and then get a new one. Be careful because you may find it regens faster than you can damage it. It is however a no-risk skilling dummy.

f) Can't answer this one (or z)

k) Defense is probably more important than weapon skill to you.

Dark blue is the answer because I am working at gettng my skills up so an enhancement will land more often. If I am in a strong group I jump in as often as possible where my other skills may not be the front runner. Try to hit from behind if possible when you do this it seems to raise your skills faster. Also having a chanter cast boon on you to improve dexterity will help or at least it has for me.

I believe druids do get bash, as Clerics do also. Useful to skill up since it can interrupt spells. (Mob_01 begins to cast Gate) When I was in my high 40s/low 50s trying to work on cleric's abilities I went to Great Divide and got a bunch of drakkel wolves. Used Mark of Karn (reverse-damage heal spell), worked them over a bit, rooted/feared them to heal myself, etc. The wolves seemed to hit lightly and while they were still blue I got a bunch of skillups in 2hb and Defense (the two I was maxing at the time).

Since we are talking about bash, what dictates the damage a shield does when bash is used? I kind of had a sense that a "better" shield does more dmg - and I think it may correlate with AC of the shield. I'm just wondering if there is a well known answer to this.

to be honest theres not really much point in lvling up melee skills as a druid as we rarely ever bother with melee (tho a good defense skill is always a good thing) but if your intent on doing so the advice below (or above if your filters are that way inclined) is pretty sound. and no druids dont get bash.

heh I've done this before :)

Even with my melee skills maxxed my druid does very little damage. I'm better off just using that time to med. However, what you want to do is pick up a pair of SCHW or a FBSS depending on your budget. Grab a DEX buff from a very high lvl shammy. If you have decent gear this should push you to your cap. Get a KEI so that you can keep your health up with heals when things go sour.

Equip a well balanced scimitar for 1HS or a shovel for 2HB. Find yourself a DB Giant as they have a very high regen rate. Snare it, Nuke it down to below 20% health and stand behind it and whack away. Its one of the quickest ways to raise offense and weapon skills without resorting to exploits.

Thanks for the advice Everybody Smiley: grin

I did mean Blunt (1hb & 2hb) not Bash - my bad Smiley: frown

As I'm 63 I need to watch which Dark Blues I take on, but Dulak & Nadox seem best bets (Veksar's OK if I have back-up but the summons don't help out Druids much Smiley: wink ) so thanks alwayslost.

I did Max 1HS based ages ago on our epic, and I know a Druid tanking has about as much point as a Troll putting on a pretty frock and make-up, but like I said, I do have an ambition to max whatever I can.

Xythex, your advice confirms what I had begun to assume, so once again, thanks all.

PS - the answer to question z)

The Pink Panther character and movies were created by William Peter Blatty whose only other successful publication was 'The Exorcist' (Almost as odd a combination as Ian Fleming who had 2 successful but unlikely creations: James Bond and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) Smiley: cool
