Thinking of starting everquest, need some helpFollow

Hello all, I'm pretty sure the subject is straightforward, but I'll get right down to it. I'm not new to mmorpg's, i've played pretty much all of the ones on the market, even Everquest. For about 6 months I played FFXI to find out that it had no end-game whatsoever. Now, with EQ2 right around the corner, would it be unwise of me to start playing Everquest now? How hard would it be for me to start from scratch and learn the ropes? Could i make it to a decent level before EQ2 comes out, or would I be wasting my time dilly-dallying around? I'd appreciate any serious input, as I am asking for serious help. I feel betrayed that FFXI turned so sour, and I'm looking for a quality MMORPG.

Thanks

Well, I personally don't consider an end to Everquest either. You can reach level 65, get flagged for all the kewl stuff, but there is no way to really "win" the game. Now as far as EQ2 etc, that is up to you. I don't know when it is coming out, but what i do know is also of my friends are quitting EQ to move on to WoW over EQ2, so you should wait for whatever one you like. EQ is fairly easy to learn; you also know how MMORPGs work. So that should help alot.

I am going to break you post down and answer sections since it's quiet complicated to answer the whole thing.

There is even less 'End game' to EQ the top guild with people who have played for 5 years+ have not finished the game, ther is always something else to do.

Thats the games main appeal to alot of people, but if you looking for a game iwth a deffinate end, EQ is not the game your looking for.

I am one of many people who think that EQ2 will A. not be out for a very long time <already postponed twice and no Beta test announced yet.> B. be a flop since no charicters will be allowed to continue to EQ 2. <how many people having invested years on an account are going to up and leave?> So you have plenty of time.

Not hard at all EQ is very very newbie friendly now and all the people who have come this board and asked about starting have been very positive about thier experiances. you can easily get to the stage of Raiding in less than 12 months with a good guild and experiance all but the very highest level of the game.

I took a long hard look at FFXI when it came out and to me they aimed it at far to young a player base. EQ tends to be adult orientated and as such has a more long term stability.

But if you looking for a game with a start and end you will not find one in the MMORPG market, by thier very nature they are not intended to be games you finish.

Thanks for your replies, maybe I used the wrong terminology.

By end-game, i meant that when you are near the higher levels there are a lot of things to do rather than just level. In FFXI it was all about levelling, sure you could fight some 'bosses' and stuff, but nothing good. Also, a main reason i wanted to play EQ was because of the raids, which other games lack. Maybe that makes slightly more sense?

EQ has that, there are some guilds that raid and do nothing but fight bosses almost 7 days a week with a day break are so. If you are looking for a point of no more leveling then EQ may have that (65 is the top level)

Ahh cool yes it does, raiding is very good fun,< unless your fighting Inquisitor Lord Seru and in the CC party /yawn>

I have been playing for 3 years and due to RL comitments and my tendancy to get distracted easily i am still in the Xp grind to 65 <top level> but i have been raiding since 50+ and LDoN <Lost dungeons of Norrath> expansion brought in sort of 1 group raid type event where you go in for a set length of time to complete a set mission.

This has changed the way the game is played and made it much easier for casual player to get the raid atmosphere on a more regular basis. Sure it's not the same as taking on a Dragon or a god as part of a 40+ person raid but it's fun all the same.

Also the leveling is more fun than other games it's not just about more hit points and spells, the game attually plays different as you progress and there is a definate learning curve that effects your game play in a visible way.

Classes become more versitile and you find yourself able to adapt more as you progress. Rather than having the same job at level 1 as you do at lvl 65, you can move into other classes area at a pinch and that is unlike any other game i have played.

I played EQ for 2 years and quit it when FFXI came out. And im gonna start playing EQ again.

FFXI (Good stuffs and Bad)

Good: Graphics are sweet.
Good Quest.
Awesome Cities.

Bad: TO MUCH DOWNTIME.
Hard as hell to get a grp.
The stupid translator.
Stupid store hours.
To much problems to install. (Got a pIV 2.4 Ghz 1 Gig ram 128 Video card HD: 40 Gb 7200 Rpm)
Stupid first Update (Its **** dude)
Not Fun at all.

I did not have the same amount of fun that I had with EQ, did not spend the same time playing as EQ. I can say that i was a casual player, the game didnt get me as EQ did. Start playing the game, buy Shadows of luclin, Plane of Power and EQ trilogy
if u arent sure, buy the trilogy and give it a try. U will get 30 Days trial for free.

Good luck.

Well.. I already own Everquest Evolutions, and for the passed week its been staring me down on my computer desk.

Is it hard to master all of the lingo, and the items and stuff? I'm just curious as to how hard it will be for me to go from one game to another like that. Oh well, guess i'll install it and find out :D Thanks for the help.

BTW: I've been thinking about playing Shadow Knight, what would be the strength's and weaknesses of them?

Shadowknight are an awesome class once you get your head around them. They are half warrior half necromancer. usually use big *** 2 handed weapons and wear plate armour. They are the kings of holding aggro <makes the Mob hit you not the cleric keeping you alive> and are welcomed in groups at all levels.

Strengths:

Plate wearing class so will have high AC <High AC = get hit for less>
Halm touch a one shot high damage get me out of trouble blast of damage
Necromancer spells like snare <reduces run speed of creature's> and fear <makes them run away> see nice combonation right there. add in life taps taking your opponents life for yourself a skeleton pet for extra *** whoopin' and it means from about lvl 20 you can solo untill 65.

be aware you have 8 charicter slots to play with per server and in my opinion the class you should use to teach you the game is a ranger due to them having all the components of the game and the ability to find a particular creature using track.

I am not saying don't play a Shadowknight just use the first week or so when your learning the basics playing a ranger.

I would say start up. I have been playing almost three months and I am 51 seeing as there are only 65 lvls I would say thats decent. Plus you will know what your into and know what class to make for EQ2 possibly.
