Paladrul Caverns is a drugFollow

Hello,

My name is Poopp, a level 16 troll warrior, and I am a paladrul caverns alcohlic.

I must confess that my slightly twinked troll warrior has just recently made it to this madhouse we know and love as PC.

1st time I zoned in I should have taken notice of the 5 or so characters just outside the zone. "Hmmm, I am sure they are forming a group," I said. Zone. Immediately attacked by 5 bandits, 1 shroom, and an owlbear. I love this place. Zone

Get a heal.

Zone back to PC with someone yelling "choo choo". Witness one of the largest trains of my life including the 5 bandits, 1 shroom, owlbear, and now 4 of those alien looking thingies. Zone

Heal. wait 2 minutes. wash. repeat if necessary.

Manage to get down to the bandit camp and get out of the way of another major train consisting of the above mentioned members plus the entire contents of B2. I really love this place.

/ooc level 16 warrior LFG

no answer.

I go and try to find singles (i.e. bandit by lake, bandit hanging out to the right of camp, etc..) Actually manage to get a few nice exp kills. Then someone pulls a train on top of me while I was taking a leak in real life.

Loading. Please Wait.

Why do I take this abuse? Because I am a PC junkie. There is no hope for me. Please let me live in my misery and wallow in my self pity. Sometime in the near or later future I will emerge battered, bloodied, but a much experienced level 23.

And then off to LDON, the equivalent of PC Anonynomous.

Happy Weekend to all!

Poopp

Who's this WE you're talking about? Paludal for me ranks right there with do-it-yourself root canals and watching the pilot of the plane I'm about to get on stagger out of the airport bar.

The key to enjoying Paludal Caverns is to avoid the bandit camps. Every idiot and his idiot brother are going to be at the bandit camps. Of course this may include you so if that's the case, disregard this post.

When I make a new character I typically start hunting in PC around levels 6-8, depending on character class and level of equipment. Go in from the Shadeweaver's Thicket side and just slowly work your way deeper as you level. Start with the little bugs and shrooms, work your way up to bigger bugs and shrooms. The first fiends you run into should be the lower level variety.
By the time they start conning light blue to you, work your way towards the shiksar in the north west section of PC. If you kill your way there, you can actually gain a full level just in transit. You can then kill the shiksar until you are so sick of PC that you'll never want to return.

I've levelled a half a dozen characters or more from 6-24 in PC, and the only time I've killed bandits is during off hours when there was nobody else there.

As opposed to say, your character taking a leak in the lake?

Heh, sorry, just had an image of some warrior doing his business and being run over by a bunch of screaming bandits "You've ruined your water supply but you won't ruin ours!"

When I was of that level I liked the exp. alot but its always nice when you get to high for a zone and find a new one to group or solo in.

I personally love this zone, it provides a quick shortcut to level 24 for my alts. The RvR in relation to experience gain is unmatched and for what would normally take about a week of what I standardly play I can gain in just a couple days. Despite all the idiots that come and go (or worse, stay) I can usually find a small area that is devoid of them and become a happy camper (pun intended). Each level I take leaves from the small grind to go work on skills. One also has to be aware that these massive gains are certainly not going to last forever (well..you can come back in the 50's to kill miners) and the fast pace is going to drop like a rock when you leave, so do not get used to it, you will be crying for this kind of stuff in the late 50's.

The last character I have leveled in Paludal Caverns was my bard and that was this very night. He is level 23 currently and has not fought any bandits or fiends. I have taken him up on bugs, shrooms, and Outcast Shiknar. The last race being swarm kited (20+-1, controlled chaos) down to the Big Shroom Room. It was a great experience.

That is what makes it truly like a drug - the withdrawal symptoms.

I think that for many new players it is a nasty shock coming out of there and finding that exp has slowed enormously. I wouldn't be surprised if many gave up at that point.

It is a good location for PLing - away from the bandits.

However my latest batch of characters have studiously avoided the place apart from a few required quest drops. I don't want to get to 24 ASAP. I want to enjoy things and - sort of - roleplay. At least not roleplay but play out the story of my characters. Why should they worry about Recondites when they have Loda Kai closer to home? Nothing like the exp but does that really matter?

The funny thing about PC is the levels people stay there. I've heard people say it is good to 27. At that level all but the very occasional bandit will be light blue.

The really bad thing about PC is that it leads to unrealistic expectations of what XP is. After PC just head over to Lake of Ill Omen and check out the ZEM there. Welcome to reality.

its a good place to PL ya toons from 10 - 23 in a day but not much else. the trains actually make good xp if you can catch em on time.

How terribly dismal this is...you do realize that there are other zones, right? I mean, there are zones that you completely miss, that are much more fun than PC...may not level you as fast, but your skill points will stay up with your levels and you can meet friends to group with and have some fun!

If you go from 6 to 24 in PC, there are places, quests and mobs that you cannot ever have the true pleasure of doing or fighting because by the time you get to 24 the mobs are green adn the quest items are trivial.

Please newbies!!! Do NOT follow this person's example! Smiley: oyvey

I entered Kurns at 10 and stayed till 20. Now for Cleric Kurns is the best exp going. All single pulls and a Cleric with unded nukes and root owns the joint. Have only been to PC once for a rez, was 65th season then and of course nothing bothered me.

It's always power-level this and power-level this but I say where has all the rp gone. I am not playing Everquest to level all day long I am here to spend 90% of my time rping and leveling tradeskills. Then again I am on the RP server. *winks* Either way to each his own I guess...

I hope you spell better when Rping or is there some link between soup and darkness?

Well up to FV standards.

I wouldn't normally comment on spelling but in a sig of all places Smiley: oyvey
